Then I’d politely decline to move forward with the interview process. The goal is to join a firm that somewhat prioritizes my health and safety.
It's not unreasonable for you and want to work somewhere that at least would require mask at a holiday party
Sue? No. Leave? Sure. However while interviewing it might be a gamble. What if you say “I’m leaving due to lax Covid policies that got me sick” and the interviewer says “oh we take turns licking the same spoon?”
If he's leaving current firm because of Beth and safety why would he want to join anew firm that shares spoona
Sue? Probably not. Finding a firm that allows for remote work (in 2022)? Absolutely.
Working on this atm.
Just a quick note to add, as an employee you deserve to know the working conditions you are putting yourself in… while you (as an employee) can’t control what other people do in the workplace, you can ask your employer for a safe workplace in terms of the actual building environment. Ask about what they’re doing to increase ventilation and filtration. Ask for specific numbers, calculations. If they can’t answer you or refuse, then the employer does not care about putting you & others in a potentially unsafe environment (aka breeding ground for ANY disease). Occupational health is a real part of public health, and employers are responsible.
Personally I would start looking for exit opportunities. Just doesn’t sound like the firm is a good fit. If this is their approach to a pandemic, I can’t imagine they’re very modern/flexible on other issues.
It’s probably not hard to find a firm that takes COVID seriously and embraces wfh. I don’t think you’d get much out of that lawsuit
These are great recommendations. Albeit, I already know that my employer doesn’t care about me.
Were you prohibited from wearing masks at the holiday party? Or were the employees who caught COVID all wearing masks? Regardless of COVID, mandating attendance at a party seems a little obnoxious tbh. I’d like to avoid social events with coworkers years after COVID is no longer a problem lol
Depending on the state you’re in, you might be eligible for workers compensation benefits. Where I’m located, the Industrial Commission considers whether attendance was mandatory and a bunch of other factors to determine if contacting Covid was related to the employment. Just a thought.
