My home office is NY but I live in NJ and I’m filing taxes in multiple states that I worked in this year. On my W2 federal wages are the same as NY state wages, how do I track down my New York w2 wages without access to my detailed timesheets? Can I just subtract my total wages from the state wages from my W2 of the other states I’ve worked in?

I may be wrong but I thought NY taxes it’s residents on all income no matter where you earn it. You claim a credit for taxes paid in other state, NJ in your case.

What do you mean track down your NY W2? You most likely received 2 copies of W2. 1 copy showing NY wages and taxes paid, and 1 copy showing NJ wages and taxes paid.

You would file a NY non resident return. You get to claim taxes paid to NY on your NJ return. You will also file NJ 1040 and make sure to fill out NJ COJ form which calculates the credit for taxes paid to NJ.

No need to manually subtract anything (although make sure to not double count NY and NY income on NJ return). If using tax software you should have the option to exclude NY income on your NJ return.

With social security potentially running out, why couldn’t it be an option for the govt to put $5k for every baby that is born in a year into an account Invested in a govt share class S&P 500 fund. Historical average is 10%+, which would provide roughly $2.7 million for a baby born today. Eventually, this would eliminate the need for soc sec tax, and would only cost $18 Billion a year instead of several trillion a year being deposited into the trust.

My partner and I bought our home back in 2020. We got a good deal, low rate. But we want to move into a more spacious SFH. However, as we all know this market is crazy. Everything we want costs $620k+ and bc of rates it makes our mortgage estimates $3500+. We are currently paying $2k. And it looks we need to sell the house simultaneously as look for a new one or our contingency isn’t as attractive. I know it’s based on personal circumstances. But what would you do? - not move, sell and buy?
