Anyone else get frustrated when the partner brags about their billable hour amount for the month? Like congrats, you get to bill .2 for each piece of mail. You also get .2 for every letter your secretary types up as a "form letter" you never even look at. As an Associate, I don't get those easy/automatic hours.

I blacked out and hit on a coworker at a work-related event. I would never have normally done it (aside from the stupid amounts of alcohol in my system) and they are in a committed relationship, making everything so much worse.

When and how do you push back on people senior to you? Fifth year dealing with supersenior associate (11th year) who completely lacks good judgment & common sense. I offered to send myself but apparently that wouldn’t work (presumably because it would be efficient & make sense.) At what point (and how) do I Just Say No?

Not sure if this is the right place, but in a privately owned business located in a right to work state, is verbal abuse allowed and would swearing at and putting down an employee in front of a bunch of other employees and in front of customers be deemed verbal abuse? Can owners demand you work a certain amount of hours a week if it’s 100% commission?

I work at a ‘free market’ firm and have developed a very good reputation among partners. Naturally, they are drowning me in work. Each time a new case comes up, the partner will email asking if I have “time and interest” in helping. When I’m at capacity, I take these words at face value and explain why I can’t do it, and that seems to work out ok with no hard feelings. But what’s the “interest” thing? If I don’t want to work on a toxic tort case, do I just say that and pass?

Partners / Managing Directors: in your junior years, how did you manage not wanting to work with a Senior Mgr who consistently tries to pull you into work he is doing? (He lies, tries to make you think that he is doing you favors, etc.) Does your answer now change as a Partner / MD?

Finally hit my breaking point. Been nothing but irritable & pissed off these past few weeks. Coach asked me on Friday when I’ll be taking time off & I just broke down. I’m a top performer & a workhorse. I’ve put so much effort into making sure my team is okay I forgot about myself. Now I am buried in work, performance is dropping & I can’t stop crying randomly. I kept telling people I am drowning but no one was listening. Coach is leaning to tell everyone to backoff thankfully.

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. The position is for a transactional role in their real estate practice group, and they are seeking someone with at least 2 YOE. I have a bit over 7 YOE with a strong real estate/commercial lit. background. Over the past two years in my current position, I've been doing a lot more transactional work. The split is around 50% transactional and 50% lit.
