Have you expressed as much to her? I was in a similar situation in the past when I changed jobs and my therapist was more than willing to work it out with me!
Good luck! It will work out the way it’s supposed to!
OP can you switch to a plan that has out of network coverage? That’s the only way to get anything covered when a doctor takes no insurance (I’ve been down this road too). If not, can you tell your therapist everything you just posted? It’s possible for a longterm patient they might work with you to figure out a sliding scale fee based on what you can afford.
This is why I choose a really expensive PPO insurance plan that reimburses you for at least half of that cost once you hit the deductible. Most really good therapists don’t take insurance if you’re in a big coastal city. It’s a shame. I personally think a good therapist is worth their weight in gold but only you can evaluate your expenses. Good luck!
My PPO too, but my deductible is $2200 🙃
Hitem with the “can you…not?”
You can use an FSA account to cover the visits. At least it is pre-tax.
Yes, you can do it for next year!
Did she tell you personally or it was like a form email? Maybe she can offer you a sliding scale.
Or pay full but Switch to bi-weekly if need be. I did this in 2020 and sometimes it was more effective because more happened in between sessions. Good luck.
Also NAMI is a great free resource, I used to volunteer there.
Are they allowed to increase rates as much as 4 X? Please talk to your therapist and let them know of your hardship. High probability that they will adjust it somewhat but don’t think it will ever go back to previous rates. Try to go every two week and see if that would be okay for you! Good luck OP!
Thank you all so much for the advice! I just talked to her and she is offering a sliding scale so I can get in at a discounted rate. I’m also looking into setting up an HSA to save costs that way, and seeing if I can get on a lower deductible plan during open enrollment. Appreciate y’all ❤️
Amazing! So glad you had the conversation and things are looking up. If I might, suggest looking into an FSA as well. It’s nice to have some money set aside that you don’t have to think too much about.
