Dad tips:
(1) donuts
(2) scooby doo
Will stock up on donuts. And will queue up Scooby doo!
My wife travels a decent amount. Main thing I do is pre-prep a ton. Dinners in particular so that craziness is handled. But even getting outfits for the week out so I’m not scrambling in the morning. Before I go to bed I just run through and think of there is anything I can do to make my life easier… pre portion snacks, literally anything.
Have any dad friends you can recruit to have a play date over the weekend? Always helpful to have someone around plus gets you out of your own head.
Then TV just becomes the backstop when it’s nuts and you need a few minutes to breathe.
2 under 2 is tough even when you are both there. Ts & Ps
Good luck! Also suggest taking Monday off. Dad of two here. So virtual high five!
Good luck, it won't be nearly as bad as you think! Prep as much as you can, but have plenty of fun with them too.
I have 3 between 2 and years old so similar situation. When my wife leaves for any trips the meals are planned out and everything runs on a schedule at home. For example dinner is at 6:50 p.m. followed by cleanup and kids play during that time;. Then at 710pm it's brush time, 720 story, lights out by 810.
After a few trips the kids tend to know that things are going to run on dad's schedule when Mom's not home and they're just used to that now.
Longest stretch was most recent with 10 days. You got this, it's more fun than it seems at first
Do you often leave for work?
No we both WFH. She has a work trip two times a year. First time since Covid they’ve made her go.
Dadding isn’t as hard as it seems. Honestly, I think we are pretty fun to be left alone with. Like D1 said, sugar and fun are what Dads do best when other adult supervision isn’t around. Done this plenty of times. You got this.
With 2 young kids? Lol it’s been very hard for us. More on the tiring, constant on perspective.
I have always loved the time with the kids when my wife was away. They will rely on you in different ways and you can find your own ways to have fun.
Main tip is you don’t have to do it all the same way your wife does and you don’t need to be perfect (neither does she).
