Non-equity partner, small ID firm, mostly MVA. Managing partner retires 5-8 yrs. We actually make the same base, he keeps profits in firm to pay ‘ees above market for ID. The idea is I eventually take over and that by then clients will want to stay with the firm even if he retires. Wasn’t looking but was recruited and offered a sr associate job at Jackson Lewis. They want my lit/trial exp (10 yrs, 35 trials). Pay is near current, but ceiling is 3x+ when making partner in 3-5 yrs. Thoughts? 🙏

I’ve always been interested in getting into an employment. ID MVAs is a grind and can be tedious. I’m expected as a partner to bill 2200+ on top of my non billable requirements of recruiting, training, HR, etc all that comes with managing a small firm. There’s also fear that clients leave when the partner retires. He is very well known and respected in the ID industry.

Recently accepted a temp role as an HR admin for a former employer. Previously interned there & left because my supervisor did not have any growth opportunities planned out for me; this was in spite of my stellar performance, as reflected in my 90 day review. She has since left the company, but there’s crazy turnover in the company & in the HR department in particular. Just that an HR coordinator resigned. Is it worth going back into a dumpster fire w/ no leadership to gain experience?

Advice for Of Counsel roles? I am of counsel at a firm where I can set my own rate and keep a percentage of collections, which varies slightly depending on whether the client is one I generated or not.
