One nice thing about this in 2021 is - if your office has a policy where you have to come in a few days a week, nobody will actually know if you’re there or not, because it’s not like your boss sees your empty desk sitting there everyday.
@ACD1 my excuse is always “I’m on a call with IT!” because we outsource our IT to third-world countries to cut costs and further ruin our economy and job market, resulting in shittier IT service with even simple issues taking hour-long calls to solve
You’ll enjoy the productive collaboration with your coworkers as you creatively solve problems in real-time, all while everyone is wearing headphones that look like your working the tarmac at Newark.
Going back to the office is filling me with certain dread.

I’ve had two offices do this. It’s silly because people end up sitting in the same place everyday anyway.
And if you’re a new guy who accidentally steals someone’s seat, you end up getting the side eye for a week.
Hotdesking is not that unheard of
Find where the CEO sits. Show up earlier than the CEO. Sit in the CEO’s seat everyday until they realize how bad it is and end the policy.
this is very tempting

it’s called hoteling or hot desking. as bad as it sounds. rewards people who come in early. Common at some of the big agencies in Chicago and NY. it’s a cost cutting measure.
Dual monitor - some of the workstations may have 2 monitors by default. That’s not uncommon.
I prefer the bathroom stall. Get more done there, if you catch my drift/whiff.

And a sign that says “out of service”
Lol wow as an introvert this gives me so much anxiety
Brand strategist 1 - I think that’s mostly true. A few exceptions but I think mostly strategists are introverts.
It’s awesome if you want to feel like you work in a call center.
I’m open to hot desking if I only have to come in once a week. Otherwise where is my desk? Smh
The first day at an agency and they gave me some really nice over the ear headphones. I quickly realized why. They actually had hidden speakers playing white noise to drown out the chatter. Luckily I got fired after 10 months. I kept the headphones.
Lol tbh I would love a cubicle. People say it’s bad but I’d love that space. Why is open floor deemed cooler?

Open office has been debunked as better for a while now. But there's cost associated with reverting so...

No this is great, now your biggest concern every morning is finding space and getting set up all over again.
Hot Desking is the result of Hot Airing.
I have a friend who’s office is like this. Would drive me nuts. I have a wacom Cintiq, provided by the company. And multiple hard drives for various projects. So I would have to set this up every morning? Lug it back and for the from home? Are there lockers. That would be absurd.
Everyone unofficially claims their seat the first week
It’s basically treating your office like a wework or airport lounge. This is where most of us are headed
Gross. I’ve been in an open office and we did have your typical huddle rooms are mini offices when you needed peace and quiet. I like having a spot and not dragging my crap around. Honestly, a cubicle ain’t bad when compared to the alternatives.
Nike does this in many of its spaces. They gave many employees all the adapters, water bottles, headphones, and junk that hooks up to big ass fancy monitors. Works fine. They had smaller lockers for employees.
Works fine because many people are in meetings and are rarely at their desk. People who show up early camp out at the same spot. Housekeeping wipes stuff down every night. Keeps stuff really clean.
The upper management, VPs or legacy type people have their offices. Can you imagine Mark Parker moves all his toys into a locker each night? Tinker doesn’t care what office work method trend you want this year.
Most people just need a tiny laptop and collaborate with various people at different times of the day. Unless you are needing a monster powerful machine to do video, effects, graphics, or monster spread sheets that need of real estate is very small.
Laptops, cellphones have changed the office dynamic.
We do this. Some spaces have second monitors, others do not. There’s a mix for everybody. Pros: you meet people you might not have otherwise, you hear a lot more about other accounts, and you can hide if you want to. Cons: privacy, space, ability to use your desk in a personal workstation way (always on the move = no whiteboard or post it notes), have to carry everything with you.
Armed robberies, seat belt cutters? Where the hell do you work, a Chicago subway car?
