So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Thank you all for your patience. I do appreciate it. It turns out having a side project while running multiple proposals is a trifle challenging. That said. I’m posting a first subset of the rawish data. In all close to 500 people took the survey, but a majority were from the Big Four. Here is the data from Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and PWC. Insights to come! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1lN6JrxQfvA_MC4XFZ38G0ppQkBuxRv9mf88Y8NE2X2U/htmlview

I would tell the truth. You received a promotion. You're conflicted because you were sincerely interested in this opportunity, but now joining at a lesser level of responsibility feels like the wrong move for your career growth. No need to mention money.
The one tricky part is trying to make it clear that you didn't use the new company to obtain a promotion as a counter, which they might wonder about even though it sounds like this wasn't that.
Congrats on the promotion!
Thank you! In my defense, the interviewing agency did drag their feet a bit. Everything happens for a reason, I guess.
I was honest and upfront and they understood.

You’ve probably already imagined a dozen proper ways. “Not a fit.” “Decided to stay with my team.” “Financially, this is a step back.”
Just sprinkle in some “I loved meeting your team. Everyone was passionate and smart…BUT” and you’ll be gold. No bridges burned.
Recruiter reached out to me. Agency was very intriguing and offered remote work, but it’d be a slight pay decrease since it was in another city.
Just got promoted at current. It was relatively unexpected. Thought I’d have to work a little longer to earn it, but they believed in me.
Now That slight pay decrease is a very big pay decrease (and title decrease)
Agency is well known and I’d hate to burn a bridge but I realistically can’t make it work now.
If you’re sure you don’t want to pursue, just say that. “I appreciate your time and consideration but at this time I don’t feel it’s a fit and would like to withdraw my candidacy.”
