No. Put it in your separation physical and get a copy. Also sign up for VA Healthcare and see a PCM right away and get it documented. They presume service connection for anything within one year of getting out.
You can also start getting buddy letters to back up what happend and when.
VA Form 21-4138 for buddy letter. Google around for examples of what should be in it but rule of thumb: when, where, what happened, result, and long term affects.
Sign up for VA Healthcare as soon as you can and get a VA PCM assigned. After discharge see them ASAP and get issues in your VA files.
In your exit physical go with your med form filled out with everything. This way the doc has something to go off of and make sure it gets in your record. Request a sleep study unless you already have an issued cpap.
DO NOT LEAVE ACTIVE DUTY WITHOUT THREE HARD COPIES OF YOUR MEDICAL AND DENTAL FILES.
Also, reach out to a VSO and they will help you free.
I bootstrapped everything myself except my CUE and am 100 P&T. Took a while and hard work.
You could also see if the doc will sign your DBQs prior to you leaving.
Id go right now to medical to get something on paper, make sure to be as detailed with doc as possible, make sure to get your dates and any paperwork with them gathered before hand.
Okay thank you. When you say paperwork what’re you referring to exactly? And would my seperation physical be a good time to mention all these things or do I need to do that with my IDC prior to? As for dates I can only do my best estimate and what if he doesnt write it down? I had brought it before and he said “well, if youre only just now bringing it up it must not be a problem”. How do I address that?
Need to get all of the above documented asap via doctors appointments. For your back you want to really pressure the doc into giving you a MRI for each of the 3 sections of spine (each section can be a separate va rating for a higher overall rating), they will sometimes fight you on putting in for a MRI because it’s a high demand machine with a long wait list but insist on it, an x ray hardly shows anything. The MRI always finds something disability rating worthy, may as well get paid for it, especially since you can link it back to that terrible incident. Always tell them about what you think caused it on active duty and have them write that in the notes too.
Keep going to the VA for things after you get out too, in your first year after it’s still fairly straightforward to get it linked to service and be compensated for it.
Bundle it with your BAH lawsuit, see how that works out for you.
