Yes for sure. It’s possible to make genuine friendships at work. I met one of my best friends on my first project. Neither one of us is still in consulting but we’ve remained friends years later.
You can make real close friends anywhere. But I would caution that if it comes down to it, will they have your back or will they exploit your weaknesses or insecurities for their gain / opportunity? It’s a one eye open situation and be mindful of how much you share and trust…

Like anything in life, you get what you give. So you’ll need to be open to making friends and being a bit vulnerable. But I’ve got 4 - 5 people who I count a very good friends at work.
