Get preapproved and have them share the rate they approved you for.

This. Pre-approval now, lock a rate only when you have an offer accepted
Rates do move quite a bit. It's anyone's guess on where they will be at a given time....sadly without a property and timeline to close you are missing key ingredients.
You can find a broker who will find and compare quotes from different lenders for you. Or you can find lenders on your own and reach out individually.
Once you pick a lender, get a standard pre-approval or underwritten pre-approval if your market is competitive

As others have said, get pre-approved, and not just pre-qualified. More paper work involved but your offer will be stronger. Also credit pull in pre-approval.
If you lock in without a property or close date your lock in rate is typically really high. Usually best to lock in once you know your close date....you need a property for that.
Thank you all
This usually makes sense, but now that the rates are changing every day almost a point up and down , if I want to lock the lowest rate day, for example the Jumbo rates are down to 5.95 yesterday, in couple days it may go back up to 6.4. I can’t get the rates locked up until I have house offer accepted and loan application is put in?
Coach
Rates have always changed "every day". You can try to lock a rate but you'll be hard pressed to find a lender that will do that before you have a purchase agreement.
Thank you all
