Received offer at consulting firm and I want to counter salary. Is there a max percentage increase that is appropriate to counter? I don’t want to start off on the wrong foot but want to make sure I get most out of the offer. Received $160k TC and wanted to counter with $200 TC.

A quick note about what I’ve experienced, in my decade long career, is the real advantage of MBB or FAANG - it gives you a shot at stretch roles that are outside your expertise. Not all the time or even most of the time compared to better candidates with specific experience for the role but gives you this wildcard shot at a vast array of opportunities.
