Recently joined Facebook - most of my team members have 3-5 YoE while I have ~1 - will this affect my prospects for promotion, i.e. do more experienced hires get promoted faster?

I don’t have an answer but could you share more about your exit? How’d you make it,skillset, project experience, etc?

It was an altogether messy process - I was laid off into my first year in a London strategy boutique due to COVID, with little strong evidence to show for it (they weren't a great firm). Shortly after, I was contacted on linkedin by an FB recruiter and had my phone screens / interview rounds but ended up not getting the role, and accepted another one in a lesser-known tech company in analytics (I think my experience with R / Python / Stats was my one distinguishing feature).

...fast-forward 2 months and I receive a phone call from the recruiter essentially saying 'we have a new opening and would like to offer it to you without any further interviews'

I'm fully aware I was a marginal hire; I applied for a role requiring niche cultural / language skills and spent two weeks just prepping for the interviews to nail them. Now that I'm in, my goal is to use this opportunity to give my career a fresh start.

Why is it that when ever I look at “entry level” jobs in IT they always want 2-4 years of experience. It’s entry level that means maybe some certifications if they didn’t major in the field or a degree in the field. Not 2-4 years already working in the field. Can someone please explain this to me?

My family and I have been looking to move to an island. My spouse works remote and can relocate at any time. My firm has an office on said island, but they don’t pay me enough to live there. I would have to ask for a raise and to be relocated. I love my firm and the Partners that I work for, but I’m thinking of applying to other places that offer a more livable salary for the location. Would you just talk to the Partners at your current firm or look elsewhere?

I asked for a raise in April 2022 after three years with my company. Positive feedback since day one. Learned I was making less than peers at other asset managers in NYC with less experience (14 years). Latest conversation was with HR about how they calculate salaries. I’ve been asked to provide examples how my role has changed since I started to justify the increase. Is this normal? Or is this just their way of denying my request?

I interviewed for a CSAM position, I have 12 YOE in MGMT CON / PM work. Any idea of potential package offer / level process? I’m looking for 180K base.

I just screamed at my dad and walked out of our home.

This morning I was trying to get feedback from him on a business idea and his response was: Maybe you should focus on your career since you didn’t get a job in finance and had to settle for consulting, and you work at Deloitte... it’s a sweatshop. They didn’t even give you a fast track promotion did they?

This is a regular thing and it’s the fucking weekend. I could use a break.

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I've been exploring exit opportunities for a few months and still holding out for the right opportunity.
