Room Block Help! Doing a domestic destination in South Florida so 85% of my guests are flying in. Do most hotels require a contract/financial obligation? How far in advance did you set up & announce your room blocks to guests? Many hotels are requiring 2 night mins and are not willing to negotiate at all- anyone else have this experience?

The process is really overwhelming me!

Most of mine did if we did a block. One small inn wanted like 9k upfront. It was insane. However, they didn’t require a contract for a small discount code, which we went with instead. 3 local hotels/inns offered 25% off for stays of 2 nights using a code with our last name.

Not the best! But almost everyone who stayed used ‘em.

We also contacted Uber and got a discount code from them for all of the events that didn’t have transportation, which was like 20% off for up to 5 rides.

like

Yes contract for a discount code and ONLY guarantee the number of rooms that your immediate family and bridal party will stay in with them calling the hotel to put down own credit card by a certain date

like

Ask your venue if they partner with any hotels for room block discounts. As far as the contract, it may vary by hotel. As for how far in advanced to reserve, it’ll depend on your city and time of year.

We had our reception at a hotel and we’re offered the following for room blocks (assuming availability, booked before x date, and checked in and out within a week of our wedding): flat fee for each room, % discount at time of booking, or a $15-20 cheaper flat fee but I’d be on the hook if guests didn’t book and fill a certain allotment of rooms. We didn’t want to be on the hook for payment and based on the current room rates, the % off was still higher than the flat fee price, so we went with the flat fee. I think we confirmed our room block 8-10 months in advanced. About 70% of our traveling guests booked with our rate.

I’ve also been to a wedding that didn’t have a room rate discount. On their wedding website they listed a couple options nearby with pricing. Don’t feel obligated to get a room rate if its not meeting your needs.

I’m looking at countries that have already announced they aren’t changing restrictions BUT the flights have layovers in countries that are (ie UK, France, Germany). Also wondering when to book as prices for those flights seem to be skyrocketing.

Thoughts on kindly asking your bridesmaids to please not give a gift? I am over the moon excited that my bridesmaids will be celebrating me and traveling for the wedding and bachelorette. I really do not want a gift from them at the wedding. Full disclosure, my fiancé and I have great paying jobs and my bridesmaids are grad students, artists, and teachers. How would you frame this? Even if they were millionaires I would not want a gift, but I don’t want it taken the wrong way.

Are you paying for bridesmaid hair and make-up? Was a little sticker shocked $200 per person before gratuity, just adds up quickly with that many people😬 Not requiring it but wanted to offer it if they want to be more glammed up, but now seeing online that’s it’s considered quite rude to not cover it for them? Maybe just cover one and they can do the other if they want? Don’t want to be rude if it’s expected but also don’t want to blow our budget… any perspective on the “norm” appreciated!
