Hospital Security is a great transition from LE.
That’s true but in my opinion Hospital Security is very different.
Do you have a degree? Most tie ins I have come across seem to require some degree. I myself am attempting to get out of LE and have completed my masters. This has opened about 3 interviews since applying in the last month or so.
Police academy coordinator, public safety director, and public administration adjunct professor. Comb through the jobs near by and see what’s available.
What about some support roles within your current agency? Maybe a lateral transfer until you find your next niche.
I'm currently a Dispatcher at a local University with 5+ years in Records from another agency. Both were/are shift work for me. (Dispatch is a given)
I, myself, am looking to get out of the 'shift' work, at least.
The companies that make the software you use often hire people who are looking to move on from agencies. Not sure if you are a Motorola agency but they hire former LE folks like crazy.
After four yrs patrol in east Los Angeles area for a small municipal PD, I had the opportunity to take a sales position in the tactical gear and body armor industry- I jumped at it full bore - business background before LE- and let me just say after five yrs in the private sector still able to protect the guys and gals protecting the public (police, fire, mil.,gov,,intel, etc..) and nation, the industry is VERY HOT still, very lucrative, and I was able to capitalize on my very limited LE background and firearms/ballistics basic knowledge.
Lots of startup companies from entrepreneurs starting their own businesses in this industry- and there’s plenty of business to go around supporting each others companies- body armor especially. Look into capitalizing on your LE experience by starting your career in the industry still working with the brotherhood- you won’t regret it!
Some security companies have contracts in your local area with the police department where you can pick up shifts, or maybe work full time. It’s a good idea especially if you are looking for something different
Good evening my name is Davide Kerr, I suggest looking into the security industry. It’s fast growing opportunities would be an asset to you. With your law-enforcement background. I believe you would excel. If you have a DD214 clearance, obtaining your ( B License ) for a security agency, with the department of agriculture and consumer services. Should be fairly easy. They also have a detective division. fdacs.gov
I have been looking around myself and I am being told by friends that a 4 year degree will absolutely be needed. I have 23 years law enforcement experiance (8 years as a probation officer, and 15 as a police officer in 2 agencies with FTO experience and currently a sergeant, and large amounts of training and policy writing experiance). I have to work through 2 more years of schooling. Things I have looked at are our states Criminal Justice Institute, and being an investigator in one of the various state agencies. I am also now considering working as a claims investigator with an insurance company, because let's face it, if I am going to continue to work I might as well get the best paycheck I can.
Would you be interested in being an instructor at a police academy or something like that?
Maybe get linked up with a PI company for background investigations, fidelity surveillance cases, workman’s comp cases. Great money in that field.
Lots of opportunities in the insurance sector - risk, fraud and compliance areas.. lots of other internal civilian opportunities too to check out, if you’re happy to stay with the organisation in general.
