Should I be ashamed for not having moved out yet at 25 years old?

AD3, where were your parents though? I couldn’t move back because it’s all small market agencies
I’m 30 and moving back home. While it’s a separate house — grandparents old house — I’m on the same property with my family. It’s easier, cheaper, and smarter than signing onto a lease or buying a home for me at this point. Plus it will give you greater flexibility should something drastic change in your professional or personal life. If you can work remotely, hedge your bets and...
IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE, READ THIS:
Try to enjoy your time with your parents. They will be gone before you know it. So do some of your favorite shared activities together, don’t sweat when they treat you like their child — you are, and smile. Your time spent there can be a huge blessing — if you let it.
31 with kids and a wife here. Moved in with my parents this month.
We rented out our house but as Corona flared up again the last month or so we decided not to proceed with our next hosting option until things settle. We also didn't want to reneg on our tenants.
So, we're going to enjoy the Grandma/ Grandpa time and I'll try not to get too annoyed by the little things. Also, my wife is a saint.
You shouldn't be. In this time it is also totally fine. Just be sure, that you feel right about it. If there have been any major conflicts in the past moving in with another person maybe a better choice. If you get a long enjoy the time you have and use it to bond with them.
I saw some people judging other people about this decision. I think we should always remind ourselves, that their are two sides of a coin. Some feel free being alone or in their own pad and some enjoy the family being around them. And there is nothing wrong with that. Just make sure you feel good in the situation.
I (30) just moved out of my place in the city to live with the parents and consider myself to be one of the more fortunate people during Covid because I have that resource. There’s no justification for paying rent to live somewhere where you can’t (responsibly) enjoy the things you’re paying for access to. I think the biggest question should be whether you and your parents get along well enough for that arrangement.
This is a luxury few could otherwise relish. Shame? Not really.
Yeah, ashamed all the way to the bank! If you ever feel bad, just keep a running total of all those mortgage and property tax payments in your head
It can be rough, though every situation is different. In my case, I lived w my parents out of necessity for about a year after graduating college.
I was having a tough tine with getting a job. Lack of independence and stimulation after being away at a great university, it was a big letdown—like the music stopped and nobody told me when it would restart. Plus, my parents lived in a very dull area. They were retired and mentally ill, to some degree, too. Definitely not fun. But you find a way through it.
I wish I could, I miss my parents.
Yes and no. These are hard times and financially and for health purposes we all need to Social Distance. My son who Graduated from the USC School of Cinematic Arts last year found his dream job before the virus. He moved back home on order to save before officially going out on his own.
Unfortunately, he temporarily lost his job because of the lack of productions in the TV industry.
He did what he could be being home for over 6 months, but when you can only social with your friends on Zoom and other social networking sites, it gets hard not being around people except for Mom and Dad.
He however got an opportunity to move in with his best friend from school. They do a lot of writing and are very close. He is hoping he will have a job on the next 6 months.
I felt this is what he needed. However, if he is not working in 6 months, he knows he is welcomed to return home with open arms.
Right now, you need to be around a secure family life style until you see what your plans will be in the future. You have your own room hopefully and can create your own space till that day happens. You are definitely not alone and there is nothing to feel guilty about. You didn't create this mess with the Covid-19. Good luck and I wish you sanity and a successful future.
Yes. You should be taking care of your parents at this point. Grow up.

Maybe they are? Moving in with your parents lets you grocery shop for them, help out with the house, etc.
I lived with my parents until I got married at 27. Being a traveling consultant, you effectively lose more than half the time most can spend with their loved ones during the week. Having them be my home base was a great way for me to spend time with them. It was not without some complications due to space and their needs for me to run errands, but in the end I’m more grateful for the time I had with them versus the money I saved.
Moved away at 23 for work and came back for 4 years and then moved away for another 3 years and came back during the pandemic.
Pros: saved some money, quality time with family and not much cooking... learned how to do everything by myself while I was away for 4 years.
Cons: Not many opportunities to socialize with the same age group while staying at home. Sometimes the fights with family are really bad.
I’m thinking about moving into a van by the river 😂
Absolutely not!!!! You do what will make your life better.
No.

Not at all!
Nah. Save your money. You do you.

Ashamed? That's a smart move.
Nope! Save money and you can always move back out to live on your own later!

Nope I moved back at 25. It’s a different culture though - in my culture is you live with your parents even after marriage sometimes, and don’t move out unless you are getting married. So anyone telling you differently is just being a dick. You do you, don’t let outside pressure shape what you need to for yourself. Social norms are for the mass anyways...we are individuals!
Your going to be just fine, people are needing to move back in with family to save and be able to move forward later in life. Don’t worry about how it appears, as long as your getting your finances in order you will be good!
im 31, and moving back in with family to save money. I also help them out paying rent on the room, which is still way cheaper then renting my own place. its a win/win so why not?
