Rent

like

Agree with the posts above. If you only plan to be there for two years, absolutely just rent.

Austin’s hot. But so is the housing market right now (overpriced). So I say rent. Plus you likely won’t know which neighborhood is for you until you get there.

like

Rent, there are some cheap options in the far west area for ~1k per month. Also think about it this way, if you spend 50k in 2 years on rent, and the housing market isn’t as hot in 2 years and homes drop in value, you basically live for free for 2yrs and potentially make some money😂

like

Definitely rent. If you haven’t lived there before then you don’t know the area that well. It’s changing very quickly. You missed the boat on an investment property anyways. Might be a different story if this was before November.

Rent

It depends

Agree with mck2. There's a ton of factors that I'm too lazy to list out on here. Really comes down to your financial situation and your goals

like

What price property would you be looking at?

I find it hard to imagine it being worth buying. Your monthly payment would mostly be going toward interest. Any gain you get from property prices rising would mostly be eaten up by transaction costs and commission. And IMO, whatever gain remains after that is likely not worth the headache of buying and then selling.

Lol good luck buying here in Austin. Just rent. Unless you plan to buy a place and rent it out afterwards.

Good luck buying even if you plan to rent it out afterwards. The last place I put an offer in on had 50 other offers.

Only thing I would imagine that could
Make sense if buying a condo in the city area and then renting it out when you leave. If not I’d rent all together.

If you can afford it buy a townhouse, live there for 2 years and then rent it out when you leave. You can figure out the logistics in the 2 years you live there. Create something that will help you make money instead of wasting it on rent.
This also kind of makes it easier if you decide to buy a home to settle down after 2 years because you can do a cash out refinance on the townhouse and use the difference in money to put as down payment on another place.
You don’t have to do it this way, but I would approach it this way, assuming I can afford a home at the moment.

Not much of an advantage. Most townhouses that I know of are in a community so the community management takes care of the lawn and stuff, with fees obviously which is typically covered in the Mortgage and HOA fees. I’ve also noticed that taxes are somewhat lower in these communities as compared to individual homes. I could be completely wrong, I live in LI so my experience is from here but it’s different in every city.

Invest in real estate and build equity. Don't waste money on rent even if it's just for 2 yrs. You can rent your property or sell it once you move out.

Tough call. I heard prices have been crazy there. If you do buy, pick a house that you can rent if the market turns

I have been searching for a travel card for months. I am a young guy who is looking to take advantage of credit and earn points at the same time. Cap One just released an interesting new premium travel card with a lot of seemingly good perks (Venture X). I also looked at the CSP and the Southwest Priority card. My girlfriends family has Southwest and swear by it, with companion pass being the differentiator. I am in the DMV area and have mostly flown Jet Blue or Southwest. Any thoughts on this?

How hard is everyone pushing their corporate clients to authorize nonresident assignees whose only 2020 US compensation was the value of their 2019 tax preparation?
My clients are pushing back on it this year, and I can't say I blame them. If I were in their shoes, I'd rather take the risk of not filing than the expense of filing again. From my own point of view, I don't really want to spend my time on such returns, either, even if the revenue and easy return are nice.

I am working from EU since last year (internal transfer from India), also doing freelancing for an another startup since last 2 years and the payment is going to Indian account.
My employer assigned a tax consulting company in India to support me in filing tax, somehow the tax consulting firm found that bank account via AIS document (not sure how they get it in that doc), as they found some interest credited for that saving account. Will I be in trouble? will I have to pay penalty :(?

For rent paid below 1 lakh there is no need to submit landlord's PAN. I have calculated based on my HRA and if I show rent paid as around 96k my tax refund will be around 13k.

However there is no rent agreement or rent receipts.

Will it be a problem later on if I show this in my ITR?

Hi all- My SO is currently at a Big4 & was initially preparing for S&O roles at GCP but given the high number of ex MBB consultants hired, they believe its just more competition to get the offer & to eventually get promoted over time.

Instead, they have decided to pursue program manager or cloud consultant roles, which they feel might have a lower barrier to entry from an assessment standpoint. Not sure if the bowl agrees but would like to get your thoughts, thanks!
