So I am currently at a small firm, with a potential job interview for global compliance tax at EY - obviously there will be a change in work load and software, any advice for what to expect? Honestly all my experience is at a small firm from 1040, 1120C/S, few 1065, but we do a lot of monthly accounting and payroll reporting.

I switched from small to BDO last year (so not B4 but way different everything) and just prepare to have your mind blown with how long it takes to do everything. I hear our software is almost the same as EY (from someone who switched from EY) and everything is so not integrated together and manual entry, a return that would have taken me 2 hours before takes like 8 now. The software frustration was hard for me and my low level of patience. The work load doubled. Way more stress and pressure. The clients are the exact same amount of pain and invoice complaining but make more money. I honestly don’t know if I’d go back and make the switch knowing what I know now, but the money is a little better and I’m getting the hang of it so it’s less stressful than it was. Just buckle up for year 1 and do your best. It’ll get easier and it’ll be a good career move. Also don’t be afraid to admit you don’t know. People know your background and if you try to pretend you know when you don’t it won’t go well.

We have similar background! I would say there will definitely be a learning curve at the beginning especially for the new software and new work process. Try to take some WBLs and get all software needed on your laptop. Then check what your next engagements will be and request for prior year work papers to review to get familiar.

Make sure you get a clear picture of hours expectations. When I was there, busy season minimum was 55 charge a week (plus admin) but about 80 total hours wasn't abnormal. My worst was a senior year at 93.7. There is a spring and fall busy season. Total recorded hours expectation was a at 2400/start and went up 50 per level.

I was just informed after the third round of interviews they’d like at least 5 references, two must be supervisors. My last job was a temporary remote job where I didn’t really interact with my supervisor and the jobs before that were at my family’s business (I do not speak to any of them for serious personal reasons.) Anything before that was grad school and I haven’t kept in contact with any professors from over five years ago. What should I do? 😕

I have had the Competency, Technical and Role-play interviews and last time the recruiter called me she told me that they have gotten good feedback of me and are making their decision on hiring me, but she also wanted to discuss salary. Is it stupid of me to think that I most likely have gotten the job or am I in over my head?

That 50/50 company then owns 70% of holding company they own all the real estate as a partnership that the original partners are 35/35 and the investors own the remainder.
