Max 401k and Roth. I’d you can achieve that on 80k you’re in great financial shape down the road.
They’re living at home with no expenses on $80k, they should be able to complete this in 5 months
Max HSA if eligible
Make an emergency savings account, Max Roth IRA, contribute remaining amount of extra cash to 401k/house fund so you can start building for the down payment once your ready. I was in the same situation and bought my first house @25
Was in a similar position when I started working last year. My financial goals while living at home were
- set up an e fund
- contribute ~15% to 401k
- max Roth IRA
- save a lump sum of cash to put towards student loans when interest starts
- take care of big expenses, ie expensive car repairs
- max company ESPP
Was able to hit all the goals before moving out. 1st step would be to do a financial pulse check, then make a plan, and stick to it. I’d recommend you set up a e fund, and max 401/Roth, before opening a taxable brokerage.
