8k sheesh
I am at similar HHI w 2 kids and monthly mortgage of 2,500 almost paid for. Pumping a ton into investments to FIRE. There is always a way out. It will take sacrifice. We do big vacays but keeping the house small has been the biggest game changer financially. (I wanted a big home so i could keep up w the joneses but spouse wanted modest and thankfully he won). We also dont worry whether we lose one spouse’s job bc we have enough invested and saved. Your health (and mental health) is paramount. Would seriously conisder changes ASAP. Life shouldnt revolve around kids elite schooling. They do perfectly fine in regular settings.
I wouldn’t move because kids are the priority. That said, you have a good income but it’s not so high that less stressful jobs that pay similarly are not available, especially as kids transition out of daycare into elementary school. Assuming public school lowers costs, I’d jump ship around then. Amazon has a reputation for being stressful.
Our monthly spend is around 12-13k month. Not including childcare costs because family helps out.
So basically, our current spend isn’t going any lower. If anything it will increase as we pay for preK programs. My SO will be able to work a little more to offset some of that, but I just feel like our current spend today is as low as it will be for the foreseeable future (vs a temporary high amount of spend that will drop off when kids go to elementary school).
Just doesn’t seem worth it to me. Our current neighborhood is basically like an elite private school but I think we could find good schools elsewhere in the country at a much cheaper COL.
Story of my life! Single income, ~$400k with 100% of it going to bills, no savings. ( I have investments, etc, but none of my income contributes to this).
Live in SoCal and have considered a move out of state, wife does not agree.
So yes, I live with daily stress of trying to keep my current job, not to mention find a better paying one. Things will only get worse.
Sounds like my wife and my situation exactly.
