The head of my practice said he wants to use his father’s vaccine card (same name) to go to bars and restaurants. It is a crime. I wish he didn’t tell me. Who do I report it to? The firm? The ethics committee? The police? I feel like I’ll lose my job if I report him, but not reporting it feels wrong.

Well, all you know is he *said* he wants to do a thing. He may or may not end up doing it. It doesn’t sound like you have any proof of him actually doing it, all there really is, is him saying a somewhat scandalous thing. I have no sympathy for people using fake vaxx card but this scenario just doesn’t seem reportable to me. All he would need to say is he was joking. Like, if i said “ugh i could kill the opposing counsel, they’re annoying” - I don’t think I should be reported for attempted murder

This is not Minority Report. You can be the fun police if you want, but you really shouldn’t…

like

The fun police?! I agree he shouldn’t report unless he knows it’s happening. But the suggestion is not just for fun. It’s for a crime-an unethical crime that for sure goes to our professional obligations

Was this on the phone or is he in the office unvaxxed?

Submit an anonymous report to the firm if you can. I’d make sure he’s told multiple people before doing that.

Is your professional judgment really this bad? Let it go. You are not responsible for policing what the head of your practice does with his free time.

How did you give notice you were lateraling to people you like? Particularly if you haven't been there that long?

I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬

Am I particularly uptight, or is writing meant to be done alone, without a partner talking to you? With past partners, we chat through script notes and then I go off to execute. Current partner likes to sit and chat as I write. To me, writing is crafting a conversation. So I can’t talk to you and simultaneously talk to this audience. Of course I can just say “I’m gonna go write.” But since we’re both CD level, I’m like…is this his first rodeo? Maybe other writers are different though.

Really struggling with a few students in my kindergarten class this year and looking for suggestions. I've been teaching K for 10 of the 16 years I've been a teacher, and have never felt as disrespected by students as I do this year. Several students continually talk, yell, and laugh over me, or make noises when I am talking. They are sent away from the group to reset and make a better choice, but usually continue when they return. Parent contact has been supportive, but hasn't helped.

I generally feel confident in my work, but lately when I make mistake, I just overthink everything afterwards. I start worrying about people judging me or not wanting to work with me on my own team and client. Some people say “imposter” syndrome might be affecting me. I wish I could just get over something and move on.

Has anyone else had a mentor (assigned to them by the Company) who seemed to have it out for you? I mean downright sabotage to make you look bad left and right. I didn’t realize it at first. She was fake friendly, but she was discrete too. Some of the executives thought she was amazing, but I had to clean up her work all the time. She wasn’t above me either on the chain of command. Later I found out she had tried for the exec assistant role and they didn’t choose her, they wanted me instead.

I’m a 9th year in a mostly litigation-based practice group at a one-tier partnership firm. My group’s billable hours have been low the last few years, so making partner will be nearly impossible, and a counsel position is not viable long-term in my group. What’s the best option here if partnership is the ultimate goal? Try to get a NEP/counsel position at another firm, which is likely difficult in my market, or offer to take a class cut by a few years?

Initial greeting can only be “Hello [name] ” because just first name is too brisk and a “Hi [name]” is too informal. Had a 5 minute, in depth conversation as to why she prefers it this way…
