This is gonna sound super bigheaded & egotistical but I promise it’s coming from a humble place

I’m what you could call an over achiever. Damn near straight A’s all my life without really trying. Graduated school straight to a six figure job, wrapping up my masters, and I’m in real estate & stocks. I work out often, so I’m fit, and I’m considered a “chad” I guess you could say

I get a lot of praise for these things and sometimes I just don’t know what to say. I say thank you of course (cont)

I don't mind the big flex, but you and LinkedIn "influencers" really have no clue what the word "humble" means. 🤨

It was the “I swear I’m humble” for me 🤣

likefunny

Thank you is sufficient. Leave it at that.

I feel the same way, but I probably would’ve been more humble about it 😂
I think my awkwardness in accepting compliments comes from knowing I am impressive to other people from the outside, but always thinking I’m never doing enough to be satisfied with myself and instead always thinking ‘ok what’s next’ because I feel the need to be an exceptional person in every way to feel like I am worth something in this world. I figured this out in therapy 🙃😂

like

Stop broadcasting how great you are + people don't know what they don't know = you stop getting compliments that you are claiming you feel awkward about.

I don't really get the ragging you're getting on here. I hear you, I'm always trying to return the compliment but when I don't know them, it's hard to know what to say. It's a cultural thing for me, my parents were the same way.

But yeah, thank you is sufficient. I guess when you think about the reverse, how do most people react? Same thing.

like

Yeah the first two paragraphs are just spewing insecurity. I think it’s good OP got a reality check because it’s definitely a turnoff when you can tell how insecure people are when they compensate with unnecessary info. Hopefully it’s humbling or at least shows him that it comes off insecure and attention seeking

likeuplifting

What are you getting complimented on? I’m failing to see how getting straight As without trying is relevant to the question you’re asking

funny

That’s legit! I would love to know how u banked on a six figure job after college. I struggled w 14 dollars an hour after I graduated! Also, I usually complement back to take some of the attention off of me.

Hey I appreciate the honesty haha! Man you got there so that’s what matters!

like

When you say you got straight A without really trying, did you not study at all?

@c2 im in comp sci yeah

Are you happy?

It sounds like you need a change. Forget what the “normal” concept of successful is and find your own.
