you can get uber with car seats - but also you can take the metro around as an alternative
If you're going downtown I'd suggest a stroller on the metro
Thanks all for suggestions. Hauled a wagon with us as we were traveling by the Acela. Took the Metro to get from Union station to get to our friend’s place. Reserved 2 separate Uber + car seat for the twins to travel to see family and that worked out great. Will do the same to get back to Union station for our train ride back. Thanks all.

Thanks for the update! Glad it worked out
You can also rent car seats through a company for the short time you are in dc. My cousin did that when he visited a couple of years ago.

1) Sit in the back with your kids and strap them in
2) Take metro and sit in the handicap area with your kids in the stroller in front of you
3) Rent a car and rent car seats with the rental car
4) Walk
5) Bike with your kids in the ride along pull cart
Get a WayB pico. Uber does have car seat option but needed to be scheduled ahead of time or plan to wait a while

We took the metro with my kids. Just stay at a hotel that’s close to the station. Otherwise we had RiderSafe vests for our kids at that age. That way we had an alternative to grab an Uber if we needed it. We even used our RiderSafe vests in Europe and Asia where car seats weren’t a requirement.
If you’re staying in DC proper, highly recommend the metro. It’s set up great and not too confusing. If you’re staying outside of DC (nova or md suburbs) then it might get tricky
