That's extremely professional. I can't believe they did that. I would be so humiliated. You were right to call them out.
If those were my employees they’d be very publicly fired. My old supervisor used to torture my coworker who had Crohns. She announced she had to buy baby wipes for him in front of the whole office, loudly commented about the “inhumane” smell whenever he would come out of the bathroom (even if he didn’t go #2) and reminded him constantly that she gave him the desk closest to the bathroom.
That behavior is abuse.
Omg that is terrible!!! How embarrassing. Good in u for saying smth
That's horrible! You shouldn't be chastised for that, you were sticking up for someone in a bad situation. You're in the right for calling them out!
I replied that just because the company is not up to date on terms like gaslighting, doesn't mean it does not exist and that this was not a ME problem. I suggested they publicly apologize to the employee they publicly shamed instead of villifying me. After that IT scrubbed all email, including my outbox.
Always BCC anything like that to your personal email acct. IT can’t scrub it.
In today’s society, bosses just think of numbers. I was told once , quoting my last boss. “I just need a warm body here!” He told me if someone complains figure out how to fix the problem before you come in his office. He would talk about other staff with other staff members. I learned the hard way go to work, don’t say anything that’s not necessary, if you have a problem keep it to yourself. Don’t work overtime thinking you’re helping out your boss because he doesn’t give a rats azz about you.
Is that considered hipaa violation ?
Yes I think so
Don’t be shy, out the hospital system Thanks for not staying quite! Change lives in people who speak up
Oh heck naw! Office wide emails sent in error has sank many a career ships! The employee needs to ensure they obtain copies of the email & engage an attorney proficient in this type of malice. I wonder if HR received a copy, as corporate legal team needs 2b notified. Also, the employees health stays or lack thereof should NEVER be placed in an email anyway. This is indeed a full fledge HIPAA violation 😡
Yep! The premise is CYA (cover your azz) The order to scrub the mail drives came from a high level VP or HR Director (definitely Above managers)
I’m not sure how they became “managers”.
Nowadays, you don’t even need a credible person to be managers in my opinion. I would say that it’s more of availability.
A very sad and pathetic world full of managers who engage in this kind of humiliation and the GASLIGHT employees to mk them look like trouble
Oh my gosh. I would be embarrassed if that was me. Good for you for standing up for yourself, but also your coworker
I hope he/she saved that email or sent to non work email to make a case.
That’s sad - total cover-up. Inside or outside of work, we know it’s wrong. An apology is warranted. If the situation was reversed, I’m sure they would feel the same humiliation.
Completely unprofessional. I wish manager could become “managers with some clinical experience”
Bosses can’t become bosses if they don’t understand your job” just a thought 💭!
That is horrible no one is the workplace has to know that, is only the employee. SMH
They should’ve apologized, but apologizing would’ve meant that they were guilty of something.
That’s an HR issue for sure
Mine loves to tell everyone , everyone’s else’s business. No secret is kept to herself.

Our managers did something similar once....sent it out....learned that day there is a recall feature...because no sooner than I read the dern thing it was gone. The only thing I had was a replacement email that said the original message was sent in error and recalled.
Sounds like two people to avoid, they should have been reported for their response to you, Also, emails like that can be retracted especially if it was not intentional.
It’s amazing how petty people like that are in management positions.
Their reaction to you is because you called them out on their behavior which was extremely unprofessional, and they don’t want to take accountability for what they did. I’m guessing this isn’t a one time thing, and they probably regularly share personal information that they shouldn’t, they just happened to get caught this time. Poor leadership. I would escalate this to their manager and/or HR, if you haven’t already. It doesn’t matter what was scrubbed, you saw what you saw, and no emails are ever really “gone.” Somebody has it.
