The Overstory by Richard Powers has become my all time favorite book.
For horror/comedy, the John Dies at the End series by David Wong.
For fantasy, I’d recommend anything by Brandon Sanderson or Drew Hayes.
If you like Greek mythology I just read Mythos by Stephen Fry and really enjoyed it.
For totally bizarre, House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. You’ll need to get the nicest edition to really appreciate it.
Agreed! Immediately had to back the kickstarter for the hardcovers of the secret novels.

I reread Bourdain’s “medium raw” once a year or so. I love his gonzo-style of writing; Hunter S. Thompson eating good food and visiting interesting places.
It’s not a masterpiece or anything, but I find him so entertaining.
Kingkiller Chronicles - by a landslide (unfinished though)
Maybe it was just overhyped for me, but I got really frustrated with these books. [Spoilers] I get that the main character is supposed to be unreliable, but it doesn't ever pay off since we never get any other perspective. Kvothe just comes off as insufferable even in his own retelling
A Swim in a Pond in the Rain - George Saunders; been recommending this by far the most to my friends out of all the recently released books I've read - mini-MFA program in book form
I’ll have to check this one out. Have you read Lincoln in the Bardo by Saunders?

It’s kind of funny that people balk at the size since Ken Follett books go by so quickly.
