Is it okay to call a sick day as freelancers?
Hi fishes! I volunteer with The Art of Good, a creative collective helping small businesses affected by the pandemic. They are seeking a little help from a media professional. Need an SEM POV for a small business looking to change their name and relaunch their brand. This is non-paid. More about giving back while in-between gigs. :) If you can help out or want to learn more, please reach out to me via LinkedIN. Thank you!! www.linkedin.com/in/karenkohn/

It's up or out. The industry isn't growing, recurring revenue is decreasing, and holding companies don't know how to charge for expertise. So that means managing out higher paid, more experienced people. It's not kind or sustainable, but it's happening all around us.

If they’re smart, they’re trying to go client-side or GTFO of the industry entirely by the time they’re 33.

Go client side.

Those of us who are 50, don’t go around announcing it. Or in my opinion we shouldn’t. I wish it didn’t matter, but it does. I’m 53 but can easily pass for 10 to 15 years younger. I try not to out myself by saying stupid boomer shit or not keeping up with tech or the industry or popular culture. I also don’t try desperately to be too hip in a “hello, fellow kids” type of way.
I don’t really have a choice. Maybe freelance or in-house. But in-house never seem to want to hire people who don’t have in-house experience.
Keep working? I’m in my mid 30s.
It doesn’t matter if you’re good at what you do. We make garbage. What we do isn’t hard. Most CWs I know haven’t read a book in years, because a basic knowledge of conversational English is all that’s required for this career. They want employees who are young and cheap, not experienced or good at their jobs.
Or go freelance.
I'm 56 and just went client side.
