What do people spend on vacations in a year, and what is your annual income. I do nice vacations and quite a bit of them but there are certainly nicer things I could do (first class plane tickets, larger rooms, etc.). For example, I was just at a resort that I was paying around $1000 a night for (which to me was a huge splurge) and they had these stand alone villas that were about double. It’s not like I was have trouble paying the bills when I got back home, but it just seemed irresponsible.

Expensive hotels kill me. I’ve stayed in plenty of Ritz/ St. Regis/ Four Seasons and I just don’t get the point. I honestly prefer just a Marriott or Hyatt. You get so much more value for your money. I do book first on flights over 4 hrs. Its worth it.

Usually travel overseas for vacation
Overnight flights business
Day flights economy - try to find day flights
Hotels standard Marriott etc

We travel so much that we see airline travel, hotel stays as necessity to enjoy what we are going to enjoy - so don’t splurge on them but spend enough to remain comfortable as have seen them all mostly

We do spend on experiences though at the destinations
Michelin star restaurants, expensive tickets for events/sights etc

I think it is the experiences which stay with us - the rest as I said is a necessity to get those experiences

Around $40 K - Family of 4

No idea what we actually spend on vacations but likely > $50k, and that’s after optimizing quite a bit with points and miles. Family of 4.

For context this covers usually 1 longer international family trip, 2-3 domestic long weekend family trips, 1-2 long weekend no kids trips. Sometimes a week at a beach house instead of one of the domestic family trips.

Around $20k on vacations + lake house and boating spend (mini vacations each weekend during the summer)

I spend around $100K on vacations annually (2 big trips - usually international - plus a few smaller trips (like Disney)). Annual income of around $1.25M.

I've heard a couple of things about how the partner pension amount @ PwC is determined, both similar in approach.

Both calculations I have heard of result in an annuity paid until death, at which point a surviving spouse (if any) receives the annuity.

The first calculation I have heard is that you get 80% of your highest earning year as a partner (e.g. If your best year was $1M, you'd get $800k as an annuity).

The second calculation I have heard is that they look at your three highest earning years as a partner, and take the second highest and you get 100% of that. (e.g if your three highest earning years were $1M, $800k, and $1.2M, you'd receive $1M as an annuity).

Is ANY of this true, or just all rumor? Any PwC partners that can chime in and explain the pension plan fact for fact? Perhaps with sample numbers?
