I don't do anything extra unless they ask. I offer help to all, help any who want help, and give alternative assignments to students who are in a different place. But I can do nothing with a student who is not attempting to improve.
I agree but before I do anything I’ve got to see they actually want it. If you haven’t tried in a month then I need to see you work hard for a day first before I consider what we’re going to do
Extra Credit is against Standards Based Grading.
I hate to say it but sometimes they just need to make that F. I've found many of my students have turned themselves around and dug themselves out only AFTER I've let them make that F. Particularly if it's due to not turning in assignments.
I try to pin point if it’s confusion on the math or outside influences. It’s usually not the math. I’ll get the counselor involved after a few attempts to work something out (tutoring, replacement assignment, etc)
Think about behaviors this year and plan to prevent them next year. Make this part of yiu beginning of year expectations. This year though. Value everything they turn in. Give them poi to in gradeboom for turning in. Then grade the assignment. If they do poorly as long as they turned it is on time let them redo it.
