Three is a lot. In NJ, third offense is mandatory 6 months in jail and mandatory 10 year loss of driver's license, plus hefty fines. LOL at 1 day in jail as a penalty for a third DUI.

Any large fleet company should have a zero tolerance policy for substances and operating large equipment, including management.

Drunk driving is not a felony. In Michigan I know a lot of people that aren’t super wealthy or anything that have upwards of 9/10 and not much happens because yes third offense is tech mandatory prison time but most times you plead to second first offense or other charges that skirt around this.
Again depending on the situation it can be plead down. That is just what he faced at the onset. Most people will take that and plead no contest to a lesser charge especially for first offense where they will do like 90 day restricted license and a hefty fine
If you have three convictions (on arrests made on July 1, 2008, and thereafter), then any subsequent conviction within ten years would be a felony DUI charge in Georgia. A felony DUI in Georgia is subject to imprisonment of not less than one year in jail and not more than five years in jail.
