M/SM level. That’s when work demands starts to overtake marginal earnings vs earnings potential elsewhere.
Odd explaination but I agree M/SM .
Really depends what you're leaving for, what income you want/need, and where you see the rest of your career taking you (stay at a certain grade, or keep progressing).
I've known some people who leave as analysts or senior analysts, and join a government organization with strong benifits and workers protection, who are quite happy being the same grade for a long period because they have higher earning partners, and they want to have a family, and be a stay at home parent.
Other people leave as Ms or SMs, and become contractors, and have a really high daily rate, but have to work their socks off, but also know that they are earning a much higher percentage of what the client pays as their day rate (because they are getting paid it, not Accenture).
Personally, I think leaving as a C or an M is the right move. You've built up enough experience by then to join somewhere else as a seasoned hire, and also have the flexibility to move on and push up the grades if you desire, or stay at level perpetually if that is what is desired.
If you're only solving for income, I think the answer is "as long as you can take it". F500 director is doable at SM, that might be a good point to hop off.

Few jobs pay as much as a Partner, plus the pensions are pretty awesome. But it’s obviously not easy to make it that far. If you do implementation work, you can leave as an SM to get into tech sales. M is probably the best time to move into a PM role.
