What do you wear on your first day at a new job? Business casual or courtroom attire? Attire has changed so much since the pandemic I never know how formal I should go in certain settings.

Default for gentleman is a suit. It may vary depending on the job/firm culture, etc, but I think you’d have a good idea going in. Also, doesn’t hurt to ask.

like

Yeah I think it's better to show up a little overdressed on the first day and then you can adjust from there. I wouldn't want to show up as the only one not wearing a suit, so if you don't want to ask them directly, I'd just play it safe and dress up

like

I wear business casual on the more formal end my first day, Nice skirt or trousers, classy blouse or button down, and a nice looking yet comfortable shoe like an oxford or ballet flat. I’ll start dressing less formal once I get a temperature on how the office dresses

like

For the guys, Oxford shirt and slacks. I keep a suit and three ties on my coat rack, just in case a client pops in without an appointment. The women in the office usually wear skirt and blouse. It's important to look professional, but not intimidating.

like

If you're not sure, wear a suit on the first day. If you're overdressed in a suit day 1, people will find it amusing. But if you're underdressed, you'll feel uncomfortable the whole day and might be on the receiving end of a comment about attire expectations.

like

Good advice. I was very overdressed and they insisted I dress down going forward but it felt good to have showed up prepared since I was in meetings/training most of the day.

like

I’d wear a blazer or suit and take off the jacket if you get there and feel overdressed. Definitely better to be over than underdressed.

like

I went this route. I was definitely overdressed but feel it made a good impression regardless. Thank you!

I've been working at this company for about 3.5 weeks now. Its been great so far.

We have an org chart in our dashboard ATS/HRIS and so I clicked on my first day buddies name just for fun.

I was able to see her entire employee file..even her address. I was really freaked out and I went to another profile and the same thing happened, I was able to see this person's emergency contact. Is this fucking normal? Should I say something and will I get in trouble for looking at a colleagues file?

Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.
