We do not.
Bain does not use utilization as a performance metric
Don't
Deloitte does, and at lower levels it can be a big factor. Main one is always relationships and "hero stories" from projects.
Accenture...never gets brought up in ratings. U could be 80 or 110 it doesn't matter
Performance impacts utilization, not the other way around...
If you are good, people will staff you...and vice versa.
It's by far the most important thing at analyst level at Deloitte. How else can they rank hundreds of people against each other
I've heard that big four and Accenture have the concept of utilization as an old accounting practice. I've heard that MBB do not, but have heard conflicting advice recently
PwC does. It counts for bonus and such. But at the end of the day, it's all about relationships.
EY does. Esp for manager and below.
^thanks for the replies, confirmed what I thought of big four. Also have a bainie friend who said they don't have utilization. To the few BCG/McKinsey folks out there, do you guys have any of that utilization nonsense?
OW2 for Deloitte (and I assume some of the other big four consulting), utilization is simply # of client billable hours charged over a fixed denominator - so completely independent of any sort of performance element
No utilization for BCG
D2 - Define a clear set of competencies and measure everyone against them. Or, try the Elo rating system. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system
