Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

Nothing is wrong with oak town, hell its better than SF any day
@E1 They don't, but when I was at the Oakland symphony, I referred to SF as "the city" (as I had done hundreds of times before) and the conductor walked by (we we're at intermission) and said "You're at the symphony. THIS is its own city" and I had to recognize

Should we tell OP about Oakland?
Live on the streets like a true San Franciscan. Free!
Are you crazy OP? You want to move to the most expensive city in the US without a job? Get your story and your cardboard sign ready so you can start begging in Golden Gate Park.
You want to move to the SF airport?
It is a cesspool these days with half the population being homeless and using the sidewalks as their personal toilet
I'll start. Rent will be roughly 83% of your gross income
I'm with E2.
Do people from Oakland really call it oak town? Reminds me of kids from the burbs being the only ones to call Chicago, Chi town
No is 5k/month enough? I can support myself for at least six months if $5k is enough?
The cost is the same with or without a job in hand
SF and the Bay Area are perhaps the most expensive places I’ve ever lived. I’ve lived in NYC, London, Dallas & Austin. Been in MTV for a few years now, and looking to move to LA because the standard of living is so much better for less cost. Don’t be fooled by the facade of SF- it really isn’t that great. It’s not bad tho.
Yea but do Craigslist
That's plenty
It's my dream. I am aware of the CoL. Just wondering.
If you're trying to live by yourself / get a new apartment, you'll need to find a landlord that doesn't care you don't have a steady income (which isn't going to be many). Do you have friends or family that have room openings if you plan to live with roomies? It really depends on how much you're willing to spend on rent and how frugal you can be (i.e., groceries, taking the bus, etc) as well. 5k should be plenty though; id try and spend much less than that though in case you aren't able to pick up a job right away.
Are there any other areas on the West coast that are better?
It depends on what you're looking for - why sf? I think cities like Seattle (still high CoL though, not as bad), Portland and San Diego are all great options, but again, not sure what you're looking to achieve moving out west
