What is the most important thing you learned in week one of training on your first sales job that you kept using 6 months or a year later?

To adapt a mindset that’s almost like it doesn’t matter what happens on that cold call. The person on the other end of that line didn’t exist in your mind before you called, if it doesn’t go well they won’t exist a few mins after the call because you’ll forget about them. It makes rejection much easier to bare and success that much more sweet.

Also: don’t over prep in the beginning before each call. I stunted my growth by prepping 4-5 mins before each cold call and then the prospect wouldn’t pick up. You learn more from your failure than 5 mins prep. Now I prep while it rings or for 1 min if it’s really important

When I don’t get answer on the phone my second option is to go to make a personalized 20-30 second video, and I end up landing interviews with top decision makers, does anyone else use video as part of their outreach? Hello everyone! I’ve had about 5 years of BD experience in increasingly senior roles and have done a few side projects to enhance BD operations on a consultative basis. I’m looking for a BD leadership role as a team lead or a manager but am having a hard time finding these roles. Most “BD manager” listed jobs are just BDR roles. The hardest part of being an SDR is not

- prospecting
- sending emails
- making cold calls

It’s the “daily discipline” of doing those things over and over and over

I have a total of 4 years sales experience, 1 year in life insurance sales and 3 in retail banking (lending, investment referrals, merchant services referrals).

I did well in banking, but incentive plan has suffered tremendously, so I’m looking to jump into tech sales where I could be more compensated for the work.
