In my experience, in public accounting, private industry, and past roles as an operational general manager, the interview process can vary significantly depending on who is conducting it.
The company may have standardized interview questions based on behavior (e.g., describing a specific scenario and how you handled it). You can google general behavioral interview questions. Remember to be as specific as possible while making your responses interesting and engaging.
The interviewer may add questions that could be behavioral, random, based on your resume, or the specific to the open position.
Have questions ready!!! About the role, work-life balance, team dynamics, and tasks you will be expected to perform within the first few months.
Ask about concerns, pain points, and where you can offer help to make the most positive impact.
Make sure you understand the levels of hierarchy and how the team is structured.
The interview is as much about determining if the role is right for you as it is about the company assessing your fit. Hiring managers (and companies in general) prefer candidates who are likely to stay long-term (~more than one year), so don't hesitate to ask all the questions you need to feel confident about the position. Also, remember that leaving a position prior to 90 days reflects more on your ability to adapt to changing environments than on the company. Give any role at least 6 months before moving on. Frequent job changes can be a red flag on a resume. While it may not seem like a big deal now, over a decade or 2 the timeframe becomes more condensed.
While it's important to show enthusiasm, avoid coming across as overly needy. This can show that you might struggle to compartmentalize personal and work life, which could be a concern for employers.
Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that both you and the employer feel confident about the fit.
Good luck!
Thanks
