I am reaching out to you all and am looking forward to break into Investment Banking from Consulting. Applied to Goldman Sachs via a referral but my resume is stuck after HireVue. Talked to the VO who referred me and he said Goldman doesn’t hire in Q4. If that’s true and still need to be in GS, can someone forward my resume directly to the team? Their career portal sucks. TIA Goldman Sachs PS: I promise a dinner in a dance place in NY after I get hired as a sign of my gratitude 🙈
Do I send a Thank You email to the recruiter?

WTF is AML and KYC? Let's start there.
I did aml/KYC governance at a JPM/MS/GS before business school....spent $200k to get a MBA and escape. Why would you ever want that role after being a consultant? It's a huge step down responsibility wise with no career progression.
So much hate on AML. What the hell about it makes it so crappy? I'm in a different advisory practice so I don't see that world at all. On the the surface "anti money laundering" sound catchy, but everyone seems to run for the hills when those letters come up.
Ugh sorry. Fuck aml
I used to work in technology at JPM on a AML KYC team as an analyst. It's much better on the client side than on the advisory/consulting side. Just know about the regulation and what it means for your job. It's really not that tough. Just think of some scenarios and how important it is for the bank to know it's customers to prevent money laundering fraud.
@D3, where did you go to Bschool after doing AML for a bank?
Anti Money Laundering and 'Know Your Customer'
Usually take about ten years to go from VP to director is that's the level you're going in at. (VP is a lower/middle management role in banking).
But the questions will depend on the role. Are you doing onboarding, renewals, etc? What level?
D3 That's helpful. Trying to escape big four and at a loss for the types of opps that are out there where I can move up and sustain my income.
The projects are long and boring, most of it is common sense yet people don't get it. The people who work in AML at banks are also dense AF
Kellogg. I had a very high GMAT and graduated undergrad in 09 during the financial crisis so I think I was cut some slack. Also was quickly promoted and had a few other project based roles in my previous MBA career.
I took the aml job because they offered me $$$$$ but it was pretty horrible. No career progression or useful skills learned.
Damn.
