I agree with bcg1. Trying to get "laid off" has worse implications ban you realize. You seriously think it's a good idea to have multiple think you suck at your job just to keep money that 5 years from now will seem like nothing? Your network should be more important
Screw integrity...this is strictly business and you should do whatever benefits you. If there is a way for you to retain your bonus, you should 100% explore it. The firm wouldnt blink an eye lid in letting you go tomorrow if they so wanted, so why should we care about them. Go ahead and do whats right for YOU, not for anyone else. May the force be with you!
How large of a bridge are you willing to ignite?
If you don't want to pay back sign on, stay for the contractually required amount of time. Pretty simple.
You calling others fake is pretty rich
According to Better Call Saul practicing your bagpipes in the office should do the trick
Shady AF
How about you grow a pair and quit after you have a job lined up? That way you leave with divinity knowing you left on your own terms....
I guess you could straight up ask if they are in need of trimming some fat and offer to be one of the folks to be let go,
I don't want to pay back sign on @ k1
What an ass
I don't want these ppl in my network--- they're fake and I'm pretty over it. Coming to this firm was a bad career move for me period
So the job isn't a good fit. We've all been there. Moving on is the right decision and there's nothing wrong with that.
But you signed a contract that said you'd return a portion of your signing bonus and now you are trying to weasel your way out of keeping your word by manipulating the system to get laid off. It doesn't get much faker than that. Either you are a person that keeps your word or you're not.
I'm not a leech or whatever I just don't want to owe one red cent upon bouncing--- I don't think it's fake to call ppl fake if the bill fits, I've felt this wasn't a good fit for awhile. I value my time and my outside life.. I have friends who make more than me who accomplish balance with work and life and who cherish their work places. I have never been so miserable in a job and quite honestly could care less for the ppl I work with --- never felt that way before EVER. It's toxic..The level of respect is 0 on both sides... I had better job offers than this but chose pdubbs based off location of practice.. hindsight is 20/20 I took like 3 steps back career wise. Had an offer in March but wanted to see how things went..should've taken it cuz I got screwed by staying.. Anyways I'm reclaiming my time and I would rather get let go than pay back money because with the emotional abuse I've put up with this year this firm doesn't deserve a penny from me..
Or negotiate with your new employer to compensate the sign on?
It's all in the game yo. Blame the game, don't blame the players.
100 percent agree with BCG1 and PwC7. It's not a good fit. Period. No one in your team nor the company started out with the goal of destroying you. It's all part of the game rule to survive in the system. If you can change it, go change it. If you can not, no one is forcing you to stay. Grow a pair, line up the new job, return the signing bonus and quit.
OP don't know how you think you're gonna get any sympathy, you seem like a leech
Those words will go down in history OP. Well Said
We get it, OP, you're an MBA hire who's far overqualified for this kind of work. There was some genuine advice in the posts above, there's no need to take your frustration with your shitty situation out on people trying to help (or even those calling you out for your potentially sleazy tactics). For your sake and ours, let's hope you find a solution sooner than later so that everyone can move on.
