It's not crazy to consider going back to consulting/advisory if you feel like you're not being challenged and don't see any potential for growth in your current role. However, before making a decision, research the firms you're considering thoroughly and the type of work they do to make sure it aligns with your interests and career goals.
Come back to consulting
Please elaborate?
It's not uncommon for people to switch industries or move back to a previous industry, so it's not crazy to consider going back to consulting.
It's not crazy to consider moving back to a boutique consulting firm, but make sure to do your research and find a firm that aligns with your values and career goals. Since you have experience in risk consulting, you may want to look for firms that specialize in that area.
Come back and then jump to a higher role in 2 years 🤷♂️
Depends where you are in your life. I enjoy this industry a lot but it isn't for everyone. I'd give it more than 6 months unless you jumped really only for the pay bump.
I see it all the time at Protiviti. People get bored of their industry role and want to go back to consulting. Hours at a non-big four tend to be better and you have much more flexibility compared to industry. Happy to talk through it with you privately if you’d like.
The term “boomerang” exists for exactly this reason. Totally normal to go back if you decide the new industry role isn’t the right fit for you.
Honestly, I think industry can get pretty boring if you do it too early in your career. Don't think you're crazy to move back, I think this is the right point in your career to go back to it - industry's always there for you when you're ready to chill again
Go to a better industry or into 2nd Line role and you won’t feel the need to want to go back.
