Never heard of Merkle but seems like a sizable firm. They offer is certainly better than Deloitte.
Working at Deloitte is not fun! I would not recommend it. Plus you will likely never see a 23% bonus. Bonuses are tied first to overall firm performance, then to practice performance, then to group within practice performance, and finally to individual performance (which is loosely based on performance and more of a popularity contest). There’s very little individual control over bonus amount at Deloitte plus bad culture so I’d go with the other one and higher base.
LOL! I fully agree that the way to a 20%+ bonuses is by “taking on the crap work that no one else wants to do” - that said, I’m not confident that makes you a “top performer” so much as a sucker with no life.
At some point you decide whether you care more about the extra $10K for doing “crap work” or spending that time with friends, family, traveling, hobbies, vacations, sleep, etc.
That said, I guess we know which type of person each of you are now.
Why would you pick Deloitte
Is 23% bonus realistic at Deloitte? Seems high to me.
23% is in the M offer letter as the max bonus, not target.
Merkle but I’ve never heard of them before
Merkle, more base is better to me
This feels like a very junior way of approaching employment. Your not comparing quality of job, quality of clients, internal process etc.
I came from deloitte they could double my pay and I would never go back.
They cannot hurt you now.
merkle, and deloitte has hsa match?
Yes thats amazing!
Deloitte is shady with bonuses and their average bonus is less than half their target bonus.
Every other company in existence, the target bonus is what 90% of employees get, if they meet expectations. Only 10% get target bonus at Deloitte.
What they are doing is lying and unethical.
Take the offer to Deloitte? Get a better offer
Point being, I'd get the money and go to Deloitte. Sometimes money may take a bit, but my experience has been positive at DC. Better skills on my teams and great growth curve.
For Deloitte - is this a Specialist Master or Leader role? Or M/SM?
It’s a little hard to tell because you’re an architect (presumably with a specialized skill set) and not straight management consultant, but even given that, I’d still say that base is on the high end for specialist master. I would not count on it going up much unless you get promoted. They are pretty generous with bonuses as long as you’re an above avg performer, but the top top end is unlikely.
That said, manager level is a much easier level to come in at than specialist leader/sr mgr. I enjoyed the manager level much more - treated like a grown up but sales/MR pressure was much less.
How do you vert the 401k match?
value add 😂😂
I would never considered promised bonuses in my choice. Those can be taken away so easily.
How does the future trajectory looks like at the two firms? Decide based on that not just today
That 401K match at Deloitte doesn’t look right. It’s .25 match up to 6% of base. So for every dollar you contribute (up to 6% of your base) they contribute 25 cents.
MATH BURN
FWIW you’d be likely joining the group I’m in. We see a lot of people going Merkle->Deloitte. Nobody has gone Deloitte->Merkle.
Nobody’s has gone from MBB to big 4… or have they
Based solely on the information provided, Merkle. Comp+ben is better overall. Deloitte med/dental insurance is better but if you have a medical condition or anticipate increased medical expenses in any given year (e.g., having a baby) then you can just ⬆️ HSA for that year
What’s the role and team at Merkle could sway
Merkle pays well but it’s a sweatshop with minimal potential for meaningful work (they’re basically a data shop/direct-marketing agency). A friend of mine worked there years ago - she made a bunch of cash but also had a nervous breakdown.
I would choose Merkle especially if it has better WLB
It does not. See my comment above.
Why does merkle have unlimited PTO, but limited sick days??
Because you’ll never really be able to take PTO, so they don’t want the liability on their books that they’d have to pay out when you burn out and leave.
See if some folks from Merkle you didn’t interview with are willing to do a coffee chat. Definitely wouldn’t be my top choice.
