When you've just learned you are pregnant and you don't have your first appointment until 3 weeks from now (and you don't want to tell anyone yet), how do you figure out what you can and cannot do safely (other than searching on Google which yields conflicting results). Just as an example, I practice hot yoga all the time - can I keep going? I think that would be best answered by my doctor but that isn't an option at the moment. Any advice is really helpful!

I wouldn’t continue with hot yoga - that was one form of exercise my doctor explicitly said to avoid (don’t want your core body temp to get too high). You should be able to call the doctors office before your appointment and walk through any questions with a nurse.

like

I would also consider trying a nurse’s hotline. Usually insurance offers other own. Also agree to no in the hot yoga, but really yoga is fine.

Besides not getting too hot, my doctor told me I could do anything I would usually do just as long as it didn't put me at risk for falling.

Fevers in first trimester are shown to have have low but serious risks as it *can* cause neural tube defects. This has been extrapolated to warn against any increase in body temperature over 101 degrees. My doctor told me to avoid hot yoga and tubs - 2 of my favorite things because of this but it can be a bit of a leap. The main think you want to avoid is getting over heated. So if you do do it just be smart and step out if you are getting too hot. This is my personal non medical opinion.

like

Can you try calling the doctor office beFore your appn? I didn’t have my first appointment until we are 8 weeks but as soon as I schedule my first one, they sent me a bunch of resources to read in advance and a text number in case I have questions.

You can also get started with some pregnancy book asap. It has good info. I read ‘what to expect when you’re expecting’

I would not do hot yoga and hot baths. don’t want to be increasing the body temperature. Congrats and good luck!

This is one place I’d defer to the internet. It’s just 3 weeks - if you are risk averse, that’s not long to survive on slimmed down behaviors; if you are less averse, then the post above should give you comfort that many people make no changes to life until much later along in pregnancy. The next 35 weeks are a constant flow of worries and anxieties - it’s good to figure out your risk tolerance now. Congratulations 🪄

I can’t speak to the hot yoga piece but, just remember this. Plenty of people find out their pregnant 10+ weeks into their pregnancy and they give birth to very healthy babies. You’ll always find conflicting information because child birth and the risk factors are still very merky.

It’s all a game of what level of risk will you accept. Just remember the healthier your body is, the easier time you’ll have overall. I vote hot yoga is fine but, I’m a tax accountant so my opinion doesn’t matter.

Get a copy of expecting better! Good data, presented well, so you can decide your risk threshold for various things. Body temp, drugs and alcohol, and foods are all addressed.

Hot yoga is ok as long as it's not like bikram hot, I think they say up to 85-90 degrees is fine. I continued with yoga in 85-90 degrees through the third trimester without any issues.

Your dr doesn’t have secret information- they get it all from info also available online. Or textbooks.
Childbirth is nothing new under the sun

Has anyone been successful in negotiating the schedule on a global pregnancy bill? My provider won't bill by visit and split the global cost into four payments all due by the 28th week. I don't understand how that's legal since it is so off the calendar of services and crosses calendar years (and insurance coverage), where most costs are incurred at the end of pregnancy with increased visit frequency and delivery.

Question about BO:

I’ve only experienced bad BO when I’m stress sweating (presentations, put on the spot, etc.) or on my period. Even if I’m sweating while exercising, I’ve never smelled.

However, more recently I’ve been noticing it’s all the time. I haven’t changed my diet, my job or anything life changing to affect my hormones/health.

Anyone have experience with this?

Ugh I wanted to take my son to see a UFC match in person. Just so happens there is one in November at Madison Square Garden - great right! I knew the tickets would be expensive, was willing to pay $400 to $500 a ticket as long as they were decent. The cheapest ticket in the whole arena, basically top row so you can’t see crap, is $506 before you start with the fees!!! Am I wrong or is that just bananas???? Oh well, pay per view it is, maybe have some friends over. Just complaining… happy Friday!

Last night I went over to my friends house (she has 2 kids, 2 and 4 yo). She and her husband were asking me about my pregnancy and planning. And were asking what I’ve prepped to date. I’m only 13w2 days so I think it’s way to early for buying stuff, but I did mention we hired a baby nurse for when the baby comes.
