Whenever I hang out with friends, co-workers or in general group settings, I always worry about whether I’m talking too much about myself and that I come across as self-absorbed. Like if the other person keeps asking me questions and then I reflect on the conversation, I realize I was so distracted by the questions I was being asked I didn’t find out too much about them. Does anyone else do this? Tips on how to overcome?

I legitimately just have to force myself to shut up sometimes and not tell the story that comes to mind when I want to relate to another person's story. It's super difficult but i worked on with my manager and trying to find how much was the right amount to speak in group settings and how to make it more inclusive for introverts that will just stay quiet if you keep sharing your stories etc.

Just keep practicing conscientiousness and it will get better over time. But it's always a struggle because that just who you are naturally

Every. Single. Time.
I tell myself to be quiet and try to listen or ask them about their life, job, hobbies. I pay special attention to their face for any obvious clue they are nearing a negative emotion (I can’t tell specific emotions - just positive or negative).
Be kind to yourself. ❤️

What M1 said. I force myself to actively listen or ask genuine follow up questions out of curiosity. If I don't ill ramble

I do thisss ugh, no one tells me or seems bothered, but I see it. So helpful to see someone else comment this. Mindfulness practice/guided meditations on listening are what I do to help. But I have to be actively working on it to improve.

Yes it took me a long time to learn to listen at work. With friends and family I still interrupt and make things about me from time to time. It’s a learned skill

My husband never reads and wants to start reading as a new hobby. What is a good book that you would recommend for a 40 year old man? Not self help books, but maybe something with action. I think he would like the Bourne series, but he saw all the movies so he's not interested, but something similar.

Parenting question - when are you expected to intervene in park situations? I have a 3 YO who typically keeps to himself around new kids. 1 time, he was climbing up steps to a slide and another kid (must have been 4 YO) turned and said “stop following me”. I don’t think my kid understood it, but knew he was being spoken to. Another time, my kid went down a slide and bumped into a kid (about 8YO) in front of him and the older kid said “hey don’t hit me”. Should I speak on behalf of my kid(contd)

My MIL is so amazing and we’d like to get her a great gift this year. She watches our kids once a week, she is so kind and helpful and non judgmental and just amazing. She’s been through a lot in the last year health wise too. We are in the DMV area if that helps. She has money but isn’t materialistic so purses & stuff like that likely wouldn’t do it. Thank you!

I have been in my position for 27 years and have never seen such a state of affairs as I have this year (but then, with the pandemic, who has, right?) Well, long story short, we've gone hybrid (some in person, some online). The teacher has been out with surgeries and covid. I have been teaching both groups at the same time. Sometimes a sub for help, sometimes not. I love the kids, but really?

Sooo my nanny fell asleep holding the baby. My husband and I work from home. So, he walked in, saw them and put the baby in the crib.
Ask: Any advice on how to address this with the nanny? Also, it it a fire able offense?

Context: Nanny started full time on 1/24; baby is not quite 5 months old; we are WFH and have cameras installed that are visible (she should know they exist); first time having a nanny

This could work in a great way of stress burster. I mean if we can connect to Likeminded from corporate sector, it's a mother level of great feeling. And if that is of an opposite gender that's something else ☺☺

Hi
My husband and I just went through a few very difficult months. His mother passed after an aggressive disease and struggle, we had another family member pass, Covid, political climate, +. Just under the surface we are so sad. We have a very easy baby but a young child is still demanding. We are not motivated to work and I can’t figure out how to return to “normal.” I am not pulling my weight at work and generally can’t imagine being motivated like I was. Please send advice.

Anybody know any good books/sources on couples finance or balancing financial mentalities? I have a personal finance mentality or character that is save as much as possible, spend as little on myself as possible, spend mainly on things that could appreciate in value. Whereas my gf is all about treating oneself, and living very comfortably, even if it is not sustainable. It doesn't help as well that I make 3-4x what she makes. Its hard to balance these two mentalities

Wrongful death folks. How do you handle your letters of rep?

Whenever I send a wrongful death letter of representation, I'm always struck by the weight of what I'm alleging: this person is dead and it's your fault. I know that when my letter arrives, odds are good that it will wreck the recipient. Some defendants are callous and won't think it's their fault, but I know often the defendant will feel just horrible about what happened.

Do you guys employ any empathetic techniques in your letters?
