Hi Guyz,
Any one from IBM ?
I went through the entire recruitment process and got selected for IBM ISL. Now I am being told by the HR that they are unable to release offer as there is a hiring freeze.
Can any one please tell me if its correct or just an excuse not to give me offer. If its true, when will this freeze be removed?

Huge layoffs since last year - did you see the big Microsoft, AWS and Meta layoffs plus many more. And the rolling layoffs continued from last year till this year.
Dell announced yet another round of layoffs recently. Intel just cut 15k workers and Cisco is cutting thousands too.
Ever heard of Software company UKG? Early July they cut 2,200 workers.
My previous company - a Tech Solutions Provider had 2 rounds of layoffs.
Add all that plus elevated interest rate environment —- companies aren’t really hiring much. WFH jobs means tons of national competition—-Then you have jobs going to international workers. I know of companies that have hired more international workers and still doing so.
I’d really like to see the presidential candidates talk about tax breaks for the companies that keep employees in the US.
I hope this is sarcasm, but if not: tech has been getting smacked since e.o.y. 2022, the layoffs are still coming and I don't see the winner of this election doing anything to improve the economy in 2025.
The saving grace that may help is if the Fed can lower rates a few times. The effect won’t be immediate but at least a start and you’re right it’ll take 2025 to hopefully slowly turn the ship around.
Other factors playing a role is the continued hiring of offshore workers. Back this Spring - US based SHI just announced they bought an 800 person IT/Cybersecurity/Digital Transformation company in India. So there goes potential new hires of hundreds of tech jobs here.
There’s still talk of a potential recession - we’ll see.
Huge layoffs and slow hiring, it’s not the best time right now. I have been reading that some are somewhat optimistic the rest of the year, the tech sector will start to turn around some, but hard to know what will happen until we see it. I kind of think it’ll be more into next year if it does start to look better.
