No, it's actually so much easier. Around the two year mark you'll notice the first overshadows the second and you'll need to intentionally give attention to number two in order for him to participate as much. But seriously, so much more lax. Throw out the bottle warmers, the baby monitors, the sleep sacks, the bottle sanitizers, etc.
Sleep arrangement - risk of keeping older sibling up.
Passing down - sibling will insist clothes and toys are MINE!!!
Attention - depending on age older sibling might be jealous of attention baby is getting.
Our "#2" was twins, which was difficult for becoming outnumbered (!). But actually agree with M1, there's a lot about the second go around that is easier. Much less mystery, you're now accustomed to what's involved in looking after a baby. Also, we found the fact of already having an established routine for #1 forced some shape onto the day that made things easier.
Great advice everyone - thanks!
First son will be 3.5 years old when the second is born. So plenty of clothes to pass down. Just not sure of the toys ...
3.5 apart should be easy with 2nd. Our second was an unexpected adoption 13 months after our first so the difficulty level jumped a lot.
I’m with ATK, my second didn’t double the difficulty level, he squared it. A good part of it is probably that he was a difficult baby with terrible luck, while hospitalized with pneumonia he got a staph infection. But at about the 18 month mark it got a lot easier, and now at 5 and 7 they play so well together.
Major props to you both for adopting!
Had twins too after first daughter. Boy and girl twins. They are now all 20 and 18 and love then all so much!!! Congrats
I actually thought it was very difficult. The 1st starts to resent the 2nd for taking away attention. That's when the sibling rivalry begins. You really gotta watch out for it, and address it. Or you end up like me and my brother.
