What Time Zone are you in?
Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.
https://ergochair.co/collections/chairs/products/ergonomics-mesh-chair-w-adjustable-headrest-and-armrest?variant=32511617597491
My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.
AMA.
McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

Yep
Nope
You shouldnt get fired if it's your first year, but you better shoot for a 1/2 your second year.
Like anything depends on what level and which group you are aligned to, but generally you should have a chance to improve. I know people who have gotten a 4 and went on to be very successful.
Not necessarily. Multiple 4s will.
A 4 almost always lands you on a performance improvement plan. You can survive those with the right support, personal dedication, and commitment and move on to have an entirely successful career. If you do not address your PIP effectively, however, you will be counseled out. In any case, you rarely just get the axe.
Nope got a 4 and still here. But you do need to have people that support you
Just to clarify “assholes” wasn’t part of my reply. That would likely get me fired since the PM is now high ranked 🤣
Got 4. Got 2 and promoted next year.
Depends on if you have a plan for your own improvement, obviously something was off so if you can fix it you'll be the guy who knows how to take constructive feedback and improve otherwise you'll probably find your way out after spending time on the bench
Got a 4 when was a SC because my PM thought I didn’t deliver as I was supposed to. Debateable at a minimum. High utilization but nothing else done that year to support a 3. Didn’t know much, didn’t ask much, didn’t compare PM feedback with my role and level expectations, and was scared like OP. After that year, got a 2 and promotion. My lesson: don’t be scared but don’t make a huge noise out of your 4. Heard that most PPDs and SMs got 4s at least once. The same PM emailed me the other day asking about my availability and I was so glad to reply a loud not available for “assholes”. I could have challenged that 4 that year and maybe get a 3 but didn’t want to be seen as the crying boy, prefered to talk through results.
Maybe not fired but not sure your rep at the firm can survive it.
Even if you got that rating during your first year at the firm?
Same as D2, happened in my second year so I spent an extra year as a BTA
It depends on the year and your utilization. If your utilization is good that helps. Most of the time as long as you fix the problem you'll be fine. In a bad year though I have heard of 4s and even low 3s cutting cut if they're not staffed.
4 doesn't equal PIP. Also I know PPMDs who got 4s.
I got a 4. Delayed promo by 1 year. I've since gotten mostly 2s and am a manager
Yes, if you get a 4 for two consecutive years. Do better next year.
Thanks Folks
For guys who did get a 4, do you know what it was that made you get that rating? Just curious.
