Tell us how you really feel! It's just a fact of life that organizations often have these pockets of people who just turn toxic for whatever reason. I always wonder if there's some reason why management doesn't clear out all the office gossips, but I guess that's harder to do than it sounds. And, in some departments that would pretty much empty the place.

Did you see any red flags during your interview? Did you look for reviews of the company written by clients and/or employees? Some reviews are obviously written by someone with a personal grudge, but if you keep finding review after review with the same complaints, it can be worth paying attention to them. Do your co-workers also have the same complaints you have? Sounds like the billing manager has been there too long and has been allowed to get away with harassing and demeaning the staff. If you have been to HR and they know about the complaints but don't care to do anything about it, then start sending out applications. You'll never be happy in a job like that, you'll never be given the chance to advance and learn new skills to add to your resume, and you'll go home at night and be miserable around your family or friends. If you have spare time (i.e. if you don't have a family of your own yet), start taking some courses to add to your billing skills, to give yourself and wider variety of jobs to apply to.

Not all managers belong in management. Find another position, simple. You have the control over where and for who you work. Take your power and control your destiny. Fix the problem, remove yourself. Then, make sure HR is clear about the toxic idiot you’re leaving.

I was a team lead did all her mgt work she was awarded money and gift basket lol couldn't even look at me. All the physicians would come to me and skip her she was happy about that. What did it was there was 2 sisters she hired the one was so jealous of me she would run in mgrs office saying she is on the phone speaking in medical insurance terms we don't know lol. Mgr would say you are talking over their head I said I'm on phone with insurance how am I supposed to talk? They were telling manager that the doctors were coming to ask only me questions and not them. One told manager she saw me after hours in a restaurant and I didn't speak she tried to write me up for that. One girl said my pic of my grand daughter was too big mgr told me to hide it in the back. Team lead i had to do QAs they would get mad when they failed manager took that off of me but let me do the OTHER girls QAs. Manager even put up a PTO board just so I wouldn't ask where they were. When doctors or directors would stop and talk to me or we in meeting with them she was rolling her eyes at me in front of them. These girls will see me out on a Saturday run back on Monday and say I was talking on my cellphone at Walmart and I looked suspicious? I was called in the office saying why you talking about your coworkers at Walmart? I had enough I literally went to my computer stop working and started filling out job applications I didn't care no more. I left the doctor's and directors were so angry lol. Before I left she said I'm gonna go to HR and get 3 ladies I fired I say why do that you have no business with that dept she got 2 fired and the other quit. Lunch lady would sell hot lunches just because certain ladies would chat with her she had it shut down. This was one of the most toxic lady mgrs I had. I lie to you not. What do you call a lady that won't mind her business? Trying to get someone in trouble? That was her name lol this manager had a cultural problem the other ladies knew it and used it against certain people to get what they wanted. Manager paid both sisters more than me and I worked there 15 years and they were newcomers she was giving merit raises 29 39 cents but giving the other Ladies 70 and 80 cents. The other lady stayed she called me to tell me manager apologized to her and retired a few months later.

So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school.
