Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?
Do all FAANG companies offer a joining bonus?
I've been interviewing with some companies, and now I have to decide between JPMorgan Chase and Globant.
Globant is more innovative, and has remote work. I will enter to work with a Sillicon Valley startup based in San Francisco. The tech stack is React, Nextjs, AWS, and a serverless architecture.
JPM is semi remote, and less innovative. The tech stack Java, SpringBoot and AWS. But I'd do more migration tasks, like dockerize projects and pass them to kubernetes. What would you choose?

I’ll play contrarian. You just graduated undergrad - I can think of many better uses of that money. If a new analyst came in with a $6k watch I’d judge them...especially if you’re rolling to work in a civic. Is it necessary to literally wear your wealth on your sleeve? But hey, you do you
BC1 — You shouldn’t judge. You have no idea why they might have that watch (e.g., inheritance from a recently passed relative, engraved with something personal). It’s bad practice. OP is not a 16 year old bus boy; he/she is making good money and should be able to spend it however he/she wants.
No...you do you.
People still buy watches ?
@MD1 wtf - those videos are atrocious
"Omichron SpyMaster!!!"
Buy it boo boo
Set aside money first, and then use the rest however you want! Life is short, but it’s also very long. Make good investments and buy all the watches later 🙏🏼
I did something crazy last week, I let one of my directors borrow my VC to impress a date.
A date that knows what a VC is is a keeper
My Graduation Self Proclaimed Gift
Do it. If you want a watch, get one. Life is short. I’m about to do the same.
For more context, I just graduated under grad and this is my first full time job!
I bought an automatic Hamilton. Love the simple look with classic black leather strap. Nice timepiece at a good price point but I’m also a cheapo so can’t justify 5K for an Omega.
If you have a lot of debt tackle that first. But as far as discretionary spend, I’m all about the watches!
I’d max a Roth IRA for this year first ($5500). Then go enjoy if that’s what you really want. I’ve never understood the desire for expensive watches, but you do you
Omega !
OP, I took a 5 year loan at 500 Euros /month to buy my first swiss watch out of college. It wasnt an Omega though...
I like the idea of a nice watch but not sure Omega or Tag trully make a difference these days... u can almost buy them at Costco
You can get away for few years with a smart watch and maybe at your next promotion buy a trully nice watch
I couldn’t!! I had the best intentions but the things that man was saying about the speedmaster was horrifying - eg. it's a watch owned by a lower middle class physics teacher, or its a middle management man who had the opportunity to cheat on his wife but decided to keep the family unit together, etc.
What do u think of this one?
