Pretty sad how low value auditor time is… our utilization goals are in the mid 90s while tax and advisory are in the low 60s… so auditors work 50% (90-60 / 60) more hours for less pay. Crazy!

Is there a middle ground between workaholic consulting and feeling way under utilized in industry?

Seeking advice! I received a job offer today and definitely want to accept but have 4 weeks of FTO on my calendar mid June through mid July. My current firm has an 80% utilization target and I’m in the 90s and booked the time towards the end of our fiscal year (july31st) to make sure it wouldn’t affect my utilization. How do I go about not missing out on this time off? I’m exhausted and need a break but it looks like the new firm would like to staff me immediately if possible.

I have a coworker in my group at the same level that constantly what's to compare our performance (reviews, utilization, projects). To me it seems like underlying jealousy or insecurity. Personally, my philosophy is I do my best and let the chips fall where they fall. Not really worried about comparing myself to others. How do I manage this?

What’s the expectation if you were free for most of the day and your boss assigns you billable work in the afternoon? Is it expected that you work into the late hours of the night to get your 8 billable hours for the day? Also I’m fairly new and no one really FULLY explained utilization to me, would I have to reach out to HR to get their formula (see if PTO is factored, etc)?

a senior manager gave me 100-110 hours of work a week for 2 weeks, i'm talking weekend teams calls for hours on end, late nights and early mornings. She then sent the budget for the 2 weeks and only gave me 24 hours per week to bill - has this ever happened to you? i don't care if you at least give me 40 but come on at least let my utilization be 100%

I’m currently on a Secondment at a PE firm (100% utilized, 6-9months) and my partner still asks me to help out with BD/sales at EY. I’ve said no several times and now she’s becoming demanding. How should I navigate through this? Still wanna maintain a good relationship with the partner and EY, but been so close of just hanging up the call several times.

As a third year experienced associate, I am up for promotion this year. I know for a fact that all the managers and directors whom I have worked with are very supportive of my promotion. I had perfect snapshots with performance differentiators. But my utilization and over time has been lower than the required metric. It was around ~82% and only ~150 hrs of over time. Should I still be hoping for the promotion or should I start looking out for better opportunities?

hey, I joined Deloitte in June 2020 as an GPS SA analyst, I just staffed on internal project only providing me adjusted utilization. Now my standard util is 40 and my adjusted is 105... and this project last in another month... by then my standard util might be 20.. will my promotion be affected by this? My target promotion year on TOD is 2022. My manager said we might sell to client and extend this project in September but nothing guaranteed.

Does utilization matter your first year? Keep hearing im gonna be rolled on something long term and then something month-long pops up in the meantime. Rinse and repeat. Kinda anxiety inducing

Does taking pto at EYP count against utilization rate similar to Deloitte?

Started with EY as an intern, currently a Senior 2 moving to Senior 3 in Oct. Part of Indirect Tax in the New York Metro Area. Reviews and utilization are consistently above peer group average. CPA, no Masters.

Currently salary is 77k. I feel like I’m underpaid compared to peers/others when I see threads on Fishbowl. Does this seem low to anyone else?

People on here are talking about billable hours and utilization... are those things that are tracked on an individual basis? We do it as a firm aggregate and thought that was the norm, but seems to be that it might be tied to specific people at other firms?

My wife is pregnant in her last few months and I feel is facing harassment at work.

One of the managers/directors is constantly talking her about her pregnancy and trying to convince her that she cannot work for 40 hours. If she works and overdelivers on her client project, he constantly forces her to write emails, she is not feeling comfortable sending. He micromanages and keeps challenging her on time she is charging. I think he has utilization pressure for his team and trying to ... (1/n)

We are looking for Product Mgrs who have 4+ years of exp in client facing roles where you gather requirements, design solutions, work with developers to build the solution, test the solution end-to-end, and deliver to the client. The work itself is very similar to what we do in consulting but you don't have to worry about firm activities, utilization, etc.

I’m currently struggling at work right now. I’m constantly being switched to and from different practice areas, teams, and cases to the point where I’m constantly unsure of the quality of my work product. Having to keep up with it all is seriously stressing me out, but it’s the only way I can even have a decent utilization. Any tips?

By close of eyes is not a reasonable time for any deliverable to be due. You work from home not 24/7. Let’s normalize standard working hours; if work isn’t done within eight to nine hours in day then it’s time for evaluate systems, if all those Zoom calls were necessary and staff utilization.

Deloitte Fishes, what are the utilization requirements for an SA? Is there a minimum number of hours? Does it differ from chargeable and non chargeable work? How does your performance get tracked? I was told about something called a snapshot but still no idea how that works. Any insight anyone could provide would be appreciated

A&M fish - does taking PTO reduce your utilization calculation for YE bonus? E.g., numerator reduces but the denominator stays the same (52x40=2080 hrs)

1) As someone trying to get fast tracked for promotion IA, should I push to get on a project during Ramadan OR spend my time on firm building in Ramadan and try to get staffed afterwards? Would prefer the second option so long as it doesn’t impact promotion.

2) if the reco is to max utilization and be staffed during Ramadan, any advice for balancing fasting + long working hours?
