I’ve applied to all the B4/midsize/regional firms for tax staff/intern and was not even able to get a single interview. Graduated last year w/. 150 credits, 3.65 GPA, CPA in progress, under a year of relevant work experience/volunteer activity. Rehearsed my resume many times and wasn’t even given a chance. Is there is something wrong with me?

Graduated Dec last year, started at EY in Jan, have been working for EY as a Front End dev on a staff aug project since I started and feeling very siloed. Will probably get Sr at the end of the next promo cycle

Applying to software eng positions casually to get into industry with v few responses (probably due to lack of experience)

Will promo to Sr + exp open more exit ops for me? I miss mentorship from my industry internships... people working on the same projects with similar expertise...

2nd year staff in financial services tax compliance, currently looking elsewhere. Had an interview at a smaller public firm (less then 400 employees between 2 offices) for an advisory role doing a wide variety of roles/projects and much more actual accounting. My ultimate goal is to leave Tax but I’m hesitant to leave B4 before senior promo (this October). Any advice? Is it worth staying til senior if I want to leave tax altogether anyway?

My preferred company A sad they couldn’t staff me till early May so they can’t extend offer yet. I told the HR I’m also interviewing with B. But the B thing fell through. How do I communicate this with HR of A?

2nd year audit staff here. If I want to exit audit to go into a Sr. Financial Analyst role or industry accounting role, should I start applying right after my senior promotion? I really don’t want to do a year of audit as a senior.

Some recruiters are f**king clueless. I made it clear what my salary expectations are and then they try to push me into this staff accountant position paying 60k, which would be a 5k pay cut and I have 2 years exp about to be promoted to senior. Now she's giving me the runaround how I won't get a senior position in industry after I've told her I had interviews for senior positions already paying 85k+

How do u feel about very short interviews? I had a 12 minute one - they were glued to their watches & didn’t even prep. Agree u should track time & sure maybe I wasn’t a great fit. But they were very complimentary, asking questions & said they’d scheduled 15 minute calls back to back. It’s also silly to ask with 11 seconds left if I’ve questions. If I don’t, I don’t seem engaged, if I do, there’s no time. It seems like a robust staff role might merit 20 minutes. Am I nuts?

How do I explain a 3 year gap on my resume? Quit my job in 2018 for health problems. Was ready to return to work on Jan of 2020, then covid happened. Worked as Loan Officer for 1.5 years, then as consultant for 1.5 years on compliance and fintech projects (staff aug). I don't necessarily want to go back into finance, but it's all I know. I can't even get an interview in my field, so how am could I possibly transition to a new industry? What are my options? I'm 26 (if it matters)

I recently started applying to jobs outside of PA and I’m hoping to get out in late March/April. Any tips on staying motivated? I don’t want my work to suffer but I’m having such a hard time staying focused and motivated. (For reference I’m a Staff 2 with 2 busy seasons and have pre-PA work experience... PA life ain’t for me 🙄)

Anyone ever got a referral from a senior staff at a bigger consulting firm but not received an interview? Is it worth trying another route into an interview or should I just pack up and move onto the next opportunity?

I have accepted a mid size company 6 months contract staff accountant role. However, I will have interviews with couple of large companies by the same week of my start date. My question is, if I’m lucky enough to get the offer, is it bad to leave the contract after a couple of months? I don’t see any legal restrictions.

I had the most charge hours of anyone in my office (over 250 consulting staff) for the 2020 calendar year. Is this something I can/should reflect on my resume that could look good in the interview process?

I wanted to do consulting out of undergrad to get a chance to work on strategy projects. Failing to get any interviews, I got into federal thinking it would be interesting to try and solve problems for our gov’t. Now am stuck on soul-destroying, low-paying fed staff aug work. I need to make a change. What do you 🐠 suggest? Do I keep trying to get into strategy / MBB consulting, or should I attempt a pivot to something completely different? Still pretty early in career (~2 YoE).

Interviewing for a chief of staff role at a startup that’s raised about $14M so far. What should I look for when assessing if this is a good opportunity?

Would work directly with CEO and expecting cash compensation of 100K and 0.25% of equity. Is the equity % low?

CEO hopes to sell at 100M, meaning the equity would be valued at 60K a year (4 yrs), but this seems optimistic to me.

I hate the post-interview gloom after it feels like you blew it. Was a highly technical interview and the interviewers were quite impersonal so that has added to the feeling of failure. I know I’m capable of doing the job and growing but no one wants to take that chance. Feels like consulting all over again where as an analyst, they say you’re able to learn but then only staff those with like 90-100% prior experience vs. someone who has only 50-75% but is highly capable. It sucks ass.

We’ve had 3 staff quit our team of 10. Now the principal is having interviews with the whole team to figure out why people are leaving. Any pros to being honest and letting him know one of our managers is toxic/ slightly abusive and nobody wants to work for her

Hey all! Currently working in your typical insurance defense firm 1.5 years into practice making $70K with a 2160 billable. I have been interviewing to leave since last year to go into a law firm doing more substantial work. However,I just recieved an offer from a co-def I work with on a case to go Legal Counsel/Staff Counsel for Amtrust Financial making $105K base, no billable and office is 5 minutes from my apartment overlooking NYC. Concern: managing own files which I don’t do now. Thoughts?

What else should I be doing as a Tax Staff 1 to eventually transfer into an M&A/advisory service line? I got lucky my first year and was placed on a brutally difficult PE client that had tons of M&A activity. Great reviews. I am studying for the GMAT now and going to be applying to B-School in 3 yrs. Imagine being on the Enron audit and rolling home after shredding the audit file/support. That would be an interesting interview to find staff/seniors/managers who were involved.

In a process of interviewing for a technical accounting manager job. Hiring manager told me that the position won’t have staff oversight responsibilities. So I feel this is a glorified senior accountant job under a manager title. The raise is decent 20%. Growth opportunity seems to be ok, 2 SM above me, one manager who has more experience, and 2 accountants that the SM oversees. It is technical accounting, so probably doing special projects etc. Should I take the offer?

Is Deloitte a staff aug organization? I’m interviewing with them and my last two consulting companies I worked with were glorified staffing agencies disguised as true consulting. Didn’t own any of the projects, always had to interview with the client and compete with about 5 other agencies for projects. Thanks.

Have a second round interview with a Midwest bank (public but small) for an M&A analyst role. LCOL city. $65-70k comp with a 10-20% bonus. Currently a Big4 consultant staff 2 (1 YOE) making $58k. Is this an exit worth pursuing?

Thoughts: don’t pursue consensus driven interview processes (all 9 people have to agree you get an offer) but pursue chief of staff opportunities where there is just 1-2 decision makers. More likely to convert. Then use that pivot in the organization.

I had a director interview at guidehouse for the BICM team, and I’m curious what guidehouse and that team is really like. I know everyone in this bowl says don’t go but for reference I’m currently at a crappy boutique doing staff aug work and while it sucks, it seems like the project gh was recruiting for was another staff aug gig and I’d rather hold out than be stuck another year on a bad project. Is it worth the jump and could I possibly get staffed on something more exciting?

Staff within the company I am interviewing me for gave me an inside scoop of the hiring process. Says I am there number one pick but they are still conducting interviews ? It’s been 1 week since I had my last interview. Does this sound promising to you all? I need to get out of public ASAP for my mental health

Are referrals from junior people impactful at MBB in terms of securing an interview? I have personal connections to younger staff (went to school with them/close friend) but I didn’t know if I needed to reach out to others who are higher up (who I don’t know personally) to secure a referral that will move the needle in terms of getting an interview.

How much does being a manager matter when applying to a manager role? I have same years of experience and technical skills for the position. It didn’t saying anything about having staff assigned or years of management experience.

Tips on interviewing with a client? This large client wants to interview staff before giving the green light. Treat it as a normal interview or should I expect something different?
