MBA. I pivoted from Fed consulting into a different industry. Had to move too...but I got a 40% pay jump and am now an executive
I’m in industry. Left BAH a year ago
As a former Booz boomerang, I say to you: get out. I left as an associate after 4yrs and scored a 20% raise. Took awhile to find the right thing, but Uncle Booz just doesn’t pay enough to justify staying very long.
Nice work! I think the world's most toxic orgs are nonprofits. Some very nasty characters.
You can go the MBA -> MBB (or a T2) route
The $250k is worth it if you can escape fed consulting. Even more so if you get to a top school.
There’s a lot of money to be made in federal, but you have to be creative and have buy in from the gov side.
Where do you work? I guarantee it’s not Deloitte. And are you hiring?
Same boat
I’m not sure, but I know the answer is certainly not to stay in federal consulting or Deloitte. The tough part is deciding where to go next.
Rising Star
If you want to save the money, learn a tech skill then start applying to commercial. I'm talking aws, azure, dev ops, Salesforce
Was at BAH. You need to define your own career path, the so called “strategy work” is very broad and completely different (i.e., requires another set of skills).
Lateral to another T2 firm or MBB. I’ve had many booz colleagues make it to the final rounds of MBB after 1-2YOE, one landed an offer (generalist). Most importantly get off that staff aug project. Look into the tableau visualization teams at BAH - majority of “strategy” work is there or in the SIG in my experience.
Fed contracting is a bit of a dead-end unless you're highly technical or interested in public policy. Sounds like an MBA is your ticket out. Go somewhere like UCLA, NYU, or Tuck (far, far away from DC).
If you want really far, try INSEAD lol
