Anyone hiring Junior CWs in NYC? Currently wrapping up Miami ad school and an internship at Joan. Ready to get that first gig.

Has anyone ever moved in with their creative partner before? Not in a relationship with them, but we both got offered a new role and I’m relatively new in the city and so are they. Just thinking if this is a good or bad idea?

How soon is too soon to leave?

I started my first real gig in advertising as a junior at a small agency about six months ago. However, after settling in, I’m realizing the account they have me primarily working is not interested in making good work, and prob not anytime in the near future.

I’m being interviewed for a mid-level position at a bigger, better agency, but don’t want to cut bait unless it’s the right move.

What should I do??

How long did it take you to settle into a new role?

I’m a couple weeks in + trying to make an impact but I feel there’s only so much I do whilst I’m still learning everything. Is that normal?

How can I renegotiate salary discussion with the HR? Initially I said 40% hike (because he practically forced me to give a number) but after having a round of discussion with the reporting manager I have more clarity about the role. Also, it is remote now but I have to relocate eventually.

Event Producer w/ great brand experience under my belt (Gillette, Heineken, Levi’s, etc) but always with smaller agencies in contractor capacity, usually facilitating or working closely w/ creative & fabrication. I’m looking for remote Project Management or other roles with more longevity but still w/ that creative input/edge. Every strength or personality test I’ve ever taken lists Strategist as a top strength. How can I break back into agencies? Even willing to go ‘junior’ role to get in door

Those of you who have quit with nothing lined up, how much of a safety net (savings, partner with full-time job, etc.) did you have to feel like it was doable? And how long did it take you to find a new role once you were ready?

I juuuuust started my first client side role at a fintech and we’re in pitches for a new AOR next week. Any suggestions on useful questions to ask the candidates after their presentations?

Interview question: Is it inappropriate to ask how the company handled COVID during 2020-2021 (I'd say "peak" but lol the waves haven't stopped)? Is this best asked to HR or the hiring manager?

I understand layoffs were inevitable in certain places, but I think it's a huge red flag if they forced their employees to go into the office during this time.

Client always loves our brave ideas, buys our brave ideas, then at the last minute reminds themselves they aren’t brave and decide not to do them. It’s a constant stake in the heart getting that close over and over again.

Started a new role and feel negative about the team and environment. My manager is honest, but at the same time always says bad things about other teams and employees and also is very negative about people who don’t like to come to the office even though the company doesn’t mandate it. She has little empathy on people and thinks that people need to get their shits done by working overtime. Some people are rude and very difficult to work with but she let them be as she thinks they have the skills

Whirlpool's in house agency is hiring for a few roles I'm interested in. Is it worth applying while they are still building everything out?

In college I was really interested in behavioral science, and learning about why people did what they did. I loved studying persuasion techniques, cognitive science, and generally how humans perceive the world. I thought advertising would be alll about that stuff. Studying the results of using one color or word over another for example. I feel like this science isn’t considered at all when coming up with a commercial idea. Is there any role in advertising that uses this science?

What’s the best way to get into freelancing, specially for pharma? Are there platforms that I can submit my info to? Or is it best to connect with hiring mgrs directly? I already have a steady FT job but want to dip into short-term FL projects to supplement my income. And FWIW I also have general consumer experience so not totally limited to pharma or health.

Hello everybody! I'm looking to work as an associate-level art director in NYC. Is anybody hiring?

Also, this is a long shot, but are there any agencies with actual good work life balance? I have some other responsibilities, so working more than 40 hours a week really isn't a possibility for me. Brand-side is definitely an option as well, but I find that not many brands are as adventurous with their in-house team, and often don't offer the same variety of opportunity as agencies.

Hi fish! Need your perspective 🙏. I’ve been at the same position for 5 years or so @ my current agency (been there longer). I’ve had periodic video conf calls with my CCO and he’s always kicked the can down the road. It’s either budgets, COVID or not the right opp. It sucks. I am underpaid, misused and there have been many micro aggressions from all levels. Oh and yeah, I’m an immigrant working in advertising. The thing is, I’ve had enough. Contd in comments:

Got promoted to ACD. Didn’t realize how little creating there would be. Mostly managing people and thinking about timing and writing emails. Yuck. Is this consistent with the role or more circumstantial?

I'm working at an agency that doesn't have the ACD role. On paper that means I'm a Sr. Creative. That said I was an ACD at my previous agency, I'm being paid like an ACD now, and the role is that of an ACD. If/when I leave how unethical is it to say I was an ACD here - just for the sake of optics on LinkedIn/elsewhere.

Wouldn't it be great if LinkedIn limited people's posts to "i am hiring for role x" & "i am available for role x." Instead, every post is someone congratulating themselves for something or posturing.
